Anyone on this forum actually got the Dinan 4.6 Liter V8 for the M3?

http://www.dinancars.com/store/produ...cat=818&page=1

Wow... Price is kind of high though. If it is $10,000 it would be pretty reasonable. Wonder if the price will go down in like 5 years.

Got a noob question though, is this a engin tune or they are just putting a whole new engin in the M3?

Hmm... seems to be 22k without a core exchange. If that's true, it's not THAT bad of a deal.

Seems like they're trying to recoup all their R&D expenses assuming they'e only going to sell less than five engines! What a sham(e).

From the product page, "Suitable core engine must be returned in Dinan engine crate for full core refund." So looks like $22k with the exchange, plus install. Sure would make one helluva M3... 527bhp!

It takes a certain breed of customer who drops $70k on a car and another $30k in mods. Most would go for the 100k car and leave it stock.

$10K? What are you smoking? Go to RD's website, you can't even find a price. Pencil Geek is 'bound' by a 'developement' agreement and can't discuss the cost either. I'm guessing it wouldn't be a penny less than $30,000 with labor for the RD4.6.

The RD stroker won't see much more than 5 rolling around either. $30,000 is alot of money for a $60-70k car.

I totally agree, i think I am one of those that would rather have the 100k car out of the box, although I think I couldn't resist modding even that car....sigh.

I agree. My point is that this type of customer is very rare, therefore I don't expect Dinan to sell a lot of these.

527hp totals:
Dinan Total: $40,250
RD Sport Total: $32,800
Robert, I wasn't pushing one engine over the other. So I guess I was right when I said it's not a penny less than $30k. I still think it is way too much to spend 40-50% of the cost of the vehicle in mods. JMO If it's not a secret then why not list the price on the their website like Dinan(we all know is more expensive with everything they sell, but at least they are open about their pricing)? I know the RD is a great buy 'relatively' speaking. My only point was that expecting Dinan, or anybody else for that matter(RD), to offer this setup for $10k is unrealistic, that's all. BTW, like mentioned above the Dinan engine is now $22,999

Sincerly,
Pavle

I would say it will be a pretty good choice after 5-10 years and the next gen M3 is out. According to the informations we have right now the next M3 will have twin turbo V6 producing about 400-450 HP and lose some weight. I would say it will be about the same price as the current M3, which is about $70,000. By that time the resale value for the current M3 would be about $30,000. (Correct me if I am wrong.) So when you are deciding to trade in your current M3 for the newer one I think spending the money on the Dinan mod will also be a really good option. If you spend the extra money that you have to add after trading in your current M3 on the mod you can have a NA high reving 500+ HP V8, and not a twin turbo lower reving V6.

Right?

Hmm I wonder how much it would cost to drop the S85 V10 engine into the M3?

Would it be more cost/power effective to do that then to get the stroker? Obviously others have done it in the past

I think the answer to your is no, it is not more cost effective, but it sure looks and sounds cool!

So do you work for Dinan? Seems like every time I read one of your posts, you are either defending them or saying how great they are.

I had Dinan suspension on my E36 M3, so I have nothing against them. Just curious.

No, but i wouldn't mind working for them. In fact, I have never recieved anything free from either. I just don't like unreasonable unsubstantiated posts against Dinan which seems prevalant here. My history with Dinan is quite short actually. After owning 4 other M cars, non of which had any Dinan parts I have been quite happy with my Dinan accessories on the E90. If someone were to make ridiculous claims about Rogue for example I might have something to say as well because I was extremely satisfied with their exhaust, spacers, pulleys etc., in the past, not to mention Bens customers service.

What are the Dinan headers made from to be worth 7 grand?

Thanks for the price breakdown PG. It may be something to think about in a couple of years.

Dinan doesn't have headers -- RD Sport does. The RD Sport headers are VERY labor intensive. However, $7k is not that far out of line considering the only alternative are Ericsson headers -- which I believe cost over $10,000 USD.

I don't think I've ever doubted you or what you know, but 60-90k ? you can buy a complete M5 for that. who would spend that on a motor alone?
I think it should be signifcantly less
