Xbox or PS3?

I'm planning to buy either the Xbox or PS3 for Christmas.

What do you guys recommend?

I've read Xbox (even though it was launched about a year ago) is more powerful than PS3 and appear to have more titles available (specially in HD); PS3 on the other hand has HD DVD.

I have a 360, and I love it, but if I didn't already own it, I would buy a PS3. Unless you are a really hardcore gamer owning both is a little expensive. I will however buy a Wii, since it is nothing at all like the PS3 or the 360. I suggest you try out both and pick what you like. They are both pretty close and the only major difference is the blueray in the PS3, where the 360 has a HD-DVD add on! Good luck and I hope you are happy with what you chose!

Oh yea, ALL 360 games are in HD, same with the PS3. They each play (or will play) "their" next gen dvd format, (blue ray ps3, and HD-dvd on the 360) they both are different, and not compatable with each other.

I have owned the xbox 360 since it came out and can say I am very impressed by the system. But keep in mind the xbox has no HD drive to play HD games...(I may be corrected) but is supposed to have an add on drive that will read HD-DVD to compete with the ps3 Blu-Ray. The PS3 WILL CLEARLY outperform the xbox 360 because of its technology...but yes, at release next month, will be more limited in titles.

In my opinion... with bluetooth capabilities on for its devices, allowing up to 7 devices to be connected, the blu-ray technology, and its clearly superior graphics capabilites... i think it will be amazing to see what develops over the next year to try and harness its capabilities. Word is the game designers have yet been able to write anything that can fully utilize its resources.

I will own both by the 17th of November when the PS3 is released...and will gladly give an update - but I am guessing it will be amazing.

oh..and I too will buy the Wii because its different and innovative...fun for all the family.

I hope you already have a deposit down or a way to get a PS3 for XMas. As far as I know, all EBGames/GameStop have sold all their allocation. I guess you can always camp overnight at CircuitCity or Best Buy, but very few PS3s will be available b/c of parts shortages (BlueRay).

Another option is eBay, but I checked last night, and games were already going for $1200 easily. Glad I have 2 on hold

This particular quote is common for every gaming system ever to come out. I remember Nintendo 64 was supposed to be the shit and all this and that and not 2 years later they moved on to the gamecube. It's said they never fully harnessed the 64's capabilities. I doubt PS2 or the original Xbox ever reached their full potential as well. As for the 360 and PS3 those systems have become so expensive that I haven't been able to talk myself into buying one. I can't even find the time to do other things let alone play video games, which I've wanted to try dead rising so badly lately....

The new games on the 360 coming out for XMAS and early next year make it the winner in my book. Both systems will be great once enough game developers get their PS3 titles out. I'd skip the crazy extra costs you would spend to get a PS3 now, get the 360 and some games like Gears of War and have some fun.

xbox 360 is better imo but im probably going to buy a ps3 once everything calms down. In about 3 months the ps3's will be all over the shelves just like the 360 was....Unless anyone is willing to sell me a PS3 that they have preordered as an extra????

The PS3 will probably be sold out for christmas, unless you're willing to pay the huge markup that people will end up selling it for on ebay. But for the question at hand, I would get the PS3 as well, they have the Final Fantasy series.

I read somewhere today - i think on Digg.com - that they were issuing a update to the dashboard so that an Xbox 360 coudl handle 1080p. Also 3 words for you buddy: Gears of War.

Only 400k PS3s were made available for North America and many of those are already spoken for. All shipments to Europe (yes, the ENTIRE continent!) were delayed till spring 2007 b/c of production problems, so those in the US will be very lucky to have a PS3. There won't be any on US store shelves in mass abundance till probably next summer, and thats if Sony's plans work out as planned.

Ehhhh its all crap....They say the same thing everytime something new comes out. Makes people anticipate it more. After christmas they will be stocked on the shelves. I gaurentee it. It woul dbe stupid for sony to not make as much as they could before christmas...Just give it some time to cool down....

I'd like to try the Wii out since it's gonna be different (the controller!).

I haven't been keeping up with the latest generation consoles. 360 seems to be doing good but Sony was having lots of set backs with PS3 and Blu-ray implementation... I'm sure once they get their act together they'll release something great.

You might want to make your decision based on what type of games you like to play and the games that'll be available on both systems. Some consoles get exclusive titles. For example, the Halo series is exclusive to XBOX (and later became available for the PC).

Actually it is stupid for Sony to sell as many as possible until they can get their costs for parts lower - as is right now, confirmed, sony is losing close to $300/system because they will sell around $600 and it costs close to $900 to build. The (again confirmed) partial reason for the delay in production until 07, especially for Europe, is because there have been promises from parts manufacturers of lowering their prices for Sony. Sony will take less of a hit, trying to control loss for 4th qtr earnings, and ramp up hype for first qtr while not having the losses on the systems....

Sports games IMHO are so much easier and more comfortable to control on the XBOX controllers then the PS2 ones, obviously I can't comment on the new PS3 controllers.
