Send a message via AIM to King Tut
What software do you want them to update? I haven't heard of any updates to the engine software for all owners.

I am in Canada and brought my car in because I have been getting an emissions warning light & a small leak in the diff.

They told me they need to update the software to get rid of the emissions issue and they'll also fix the leak in the diff (will need my car for a day, possibly overnight.)

i'm just glad Dinan puts your software back in for free when the idiot dealer puts it back to stock on you when at the dealer even though you tell them to leave it alone

Yeah they needed the car overnight and replaced the R/S output shaft because the sealing ring was leaking. () I also get the cold weather software update in my car [on top of the service it says 'fuel system'.] Only thing now is that the passenger arm that pushes up the seatbelt stopped working?!

My car is from Budds.

Whats that update? Is there a service bulletin on it?

I saw that vehicle when i was there not too long ago, before the holidays i guess

Well, they should fix it up for you. Did you get a winter package? or stored?

It's an SG/Black M3 .
I don't know if there is a service bulletin on the software update; on the invoice it says 'complaint correction' not service bulletin if that means anything. I reported the complaint that my car had increased emissions warning message.

I got a winter package for it but I still have my other car so I really don't use it much in the winter. Just on some dry days to keep it running smoothly, once or twice a week so far. 19" Blizzak 225 on front, 265 on rear for winter.. Was on sale for $850 USD incl. shipping on Tirerack

BMW is constantly coming out with new versions of their engine management software software code to tweak a few parameters/targets/values here and there, in order to help the car run smoother or fix a known issue based on customer feedback.

As I said before in another thread, writing engine software is not an exact science.

If you change one value within the ECU programming code (without knowing how that will affect something else), you'll end up having 'weird' (unpredictable) anomalies that are very annoying.

Every version of the BMW factory ECU software (well over 10 different versions to date) is just a little bit different from the last.

The BMW engineers are always fine tuning something, and when they accumulate 3, 5, or 10 little software tweaks, they release a new version that is better than the last.

Now if you have aftermarket software installed on your ECU, that software must be based on the BMW factory software code you had installed at the time. Because if it's not...the performance of your aftermarket software will suffer.

In other words, your aftermarket software flash is not going to function without a few 'quirks' here and there, like an operating system that was corrupted during the installation process. It will never work reliably, until the system is completely re-installed from scratch.

This is the primary reason so many aftermarket performance tuning flashes are not working as well as they should.

Instead of getting along like best friends, the BMW factory ECU software & the aftermarket performance software are too busy fighting one another in a steel cage match.

Lemans,

Could you please articulate more on aftermarket tunes? Could you rate aftermarket tunes
that are the most compatible and supportable with the factory ECU.

Thanks,

Chris
