Hit a pothole today and now have a bulge in tire. Need to be replaced?

Smacked my front passenger wheel pretty good into a pothole while coming off the freeway. Tire has a bulge on the sidewall now, does this need to be replaced? I have tire insurance for the car, would that normally be covered?

Absolutely needs to be replaced. Have no idea if your policy will cover. That's for you to inquire. If so don't they usually prorate the tire life?

Most tire insurance companies (99% of them) won't cover a bubble if the tire holds air. They will only replace if it "blows out" or if there is a nail in the side wall where they can't plug the tire. Did you check to see if the pothole was filled with nails?

I know of a few people who have tire insurance and got their bubbled tire replaced with no problems.

Mine is if your other tire is half worn or more, you should replace BOTH front tires. Good luck.

When I bought the tire/wheel insurance from BMW, my rep told me the keyword is always "pothole." Should not be a problem...

I have had tires with bubble replaced with tire insurance without a question. However, you need to look at the fine print on your contract.

As others have said, this tire is finished.

shouldn't be a problem. had a similar issue earlier in the year and i just brought the car to the dealership, told them how dangerous it is to drive the car with that compromised tire... they got me a new one in 2 days.

I have had three tires and 1 rim replaced after hitting pot holes. IN all cases the tires held air and in all 3 cases the tire insurance paid for it.

Tread wear was pro-rated but I had more than 90% of the tread left in all cases. And yes, now that you ask, I live in New York City.

I got the tire insurance on my '06 330, then later found out that it only covered tire replacement if the tire didn't hold air. I was shocked. -1, I've never had a problem with my tire insurance. Then again every time I've gone, they replace them because of multiple nails in the tires

I hit a pothole today, too but forunately there is no any visible damange on the tire and wheel.

Quick question, does dealer charge when you ask them to check if the wheel is bend? (I've the tire & wheel protection plan)
