Michelin Tyres are set to roll out the Pilot Sport 3 (PS3) in 18 sizes on January 1st 2010 with 10 further sizes to be launched between July 2010 and Oct 2010. January 1st also coincides with the release of the Continental Sport Contact 5.
So, the big improvements are wet handling... good but not great.

Tread pattern looks almost like an all season tire with smaller treadblocks and lots of siping? Not feeling the tread design.

Interesting, thanks for that information. Though, I'd rather be interested in the new Pilot Super Sport. Don't know about its availability and sizes yet.

Best regards,
south

What's the Super Sport, replacement for the Sport Cup?

Not sure, but I think so. Mercedes claims that it has been developed exclusively for the SLS AMG, but I suppose that other models/dimensions will follow. Some F10 M5 prototypes run on the Super Sport, either.

Best regards,

I'll take 10% better wet cornering and 20% better wet braking with ~8% better life. Not bad for an all purpose high performance tire.

Same here. Wonder if it's still considered 'max summer', or 'ultra high-performance all-season'. Looks like a combination of both (same dry performance), which seems like a stretch to me . Only little detail left is if it performs as advertised. At any rate, if true, that'd be a more appropriate standard tire for the great majority of owners IMO. Good day gang.

Sure, it's good. I'll take improvements.

However, these are areas of improvement that would be prioritized on an all season. For a high performance summer tire, I'd expect improvements in overall traction, stiffer sidewalls... things that the PS2 doesn't do as well as the RE-11.

Of course, this is all for nothing if the Event-supplied info is faulty (as Motorix cautions).

My dealer here had no info on these. Said the latest literature he was sent did not mention the PS3.

I'll take better wet handling - but I get a ton of rain here. I could see people in dry environments being disappointed.

Most people will appreciate the PS3 in the Northeast. If they need track tires, it definitely won't be these anyway. I'm looking forward to em.

If you live where it rains a lot this seems like an awesome tire. The current PS2's are amazing in the rain IMO.

Wet improvements mean nothing to me. Not too mention the premium on Michelin's and the increased price for these.

So we're SOL. Only tire on that list that might fit is the 255/35 for fronts, but nothing in rear sizes (at least during 2010.) I have to say the chosen sizes seem odd - not much in sizes for 19s.

By the time that you'll need summer tires in Colorado, they'll likely have additional sizes out. The July projection seems a bit late.

The article had all 16 and 17" sizes for the July - October time frame. Maybe they'll add more, otherwise will have to stay with PS2 if they are still in stock.
