Arrow M3 GT4 Detailed Pictures

Found these on SportAuto. It's interesting to see how little modifications were needed for the M3 to be race ready. Of course, the GT4 is an ameteur series with an emphasis on reduced running costs, high reliability and the carry-over of production parts.

Some notable changes from the stock car:
1. Rear spring/shock configuration has been modified to a strut configuration.
2. AP Racing brakes on front and rear. Front seems like a monobloc, rear appears to be two-piece.
3. Carbon fiber fuel tank.
4. Akrapovic full exhaust.
5. Front brake cooling channels.

Also, I guess now we can appreciate why the Akrapovic full system we buy have catalytic convertors downstream of the stock car's first and second sets of O2 sensors. Looks like the Akrapovic was designed for the GT4 car, which requires cats in the system, but they are placed further downstream to improve performance?

BTW, BMW Motorsport (not to be confused with M GmbH who makes our road-going Ms) just announced a E89 Z4 GT3 race car w/ a 480 bhp V8! http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=332955

Thanks for the pics.
Looks like BMW has their own solution for the power steering system overheating and I like their mounting points for the front Moton canisters
Curious also to know what the steel braided hose line behind the air intake box is for

I wonder what is involved in swapping the parts for that rear suspension to a regular M3. That would be so much better, the rear is unstable and squierrly which is why I bet most M3's in lower race series are running Wings

1. From what I've read, the shocks are by Íhlins.

2. The rear suspension swap is actually very simple. Per GT4 regulations (yes, I actually read the whole thing), only the shocks and sways are allowed to be changed. The rest of the suspension is more or less the same as stock. So, it would be very easy to do a swap to implement the system. In fact, someone has already done it for a E92 M3 race car. Thanks for the pics! Interesting that they wrapped the Akra. Probably a good idea with the cv boots and driveshaft right above it and since you lose the OEM heat shielding. Perhaps I'll do this as well.

The E36 M3 style mirrors are a nice touch too.

Years ago when people were working on converting the E30/E36 chassis to a true coilover setup in the rear for race use, the sheetmetal was a problem as it would often warp or tear from the extra load- it was not designed to tolerate the force of a spring mounted at this location.

I wonder if converting to a coilover application in the rear of the car would really be as simple as changing the damper/spring to that design. Judging from the photos it seems that it may be more complex than that, as it seems that the upper mounting area is reinforced by the roll cage on this car. I'm not sure though.

Any power increase for the GT4?
Im gonna assume it might have the same motor as the GTS.

No GT4 uses the stock motor due to FiA GT4 regulations.

The GTS is not designed to any racing regulations, so it does not have restrictions on its engine size.
