Moton Street Sport Review

Edited on 5/20:

I ended up returning the Motons due to all of the teething issues. Bimmerworld and moton were great to work with throughout the entire process but after 8 months (and multiple sets of shocks) I decided that I didn't have any more time, money, and patience to continue the journey.

Thanks for the review.
What rates are you using now?

My spring rates are about 50% stiffer than what came with the kit.
As James alluded to in his original post a few months back, the camber plates are not wildly necessary with the E9X. I was only getting a tiny amout of outside shoulder wear on my NT-01's and temps were fairly even across the tread. Camber plates will be better and should truly optimize things though

That's a lot stiffer.
Barry is running Dinan camber plates, I might do the same since they don't have any increased NVH.

It doesn't ride as hard as you would think. The shocks really smooth it out. Don't ge me wrong, you'll know it's been juiced up but the ride is tolerabe for me as a day driver.
After agreeing to the rates I acually called James back the next day to chicken out. I'm glad he convinced me to keep the rates that I did. He even threw some higher rates on his car just to validate that the shocks could handle it.

That's a similar experience I had with the Clubsports on my old E46M3. The ride, despite the high springs (700lbs), was still very good. It was the solid bushings and camber plates that changed the NVH character of the car to the point that it became unbearable on the street.

Aren't Motons the ones that cost an arm and a leg? I'm just curious, I have a long way to go before maxing out the stock EDC suspension...

Cost between $4200 to $4700 for the kit we are talking about here.

Can we get a picture of the full car? The shocks and springs do look pretty tasty.

Thanks for the review. I spoke with a racer during the last NASA NE event of the year who had converted an E92 M3 coupe to a race car--the one Turner did. He was running this suspension. We didn't talk in detail, but he said he was very happy with its performance.

Here's me on my setup. On track performance is outstanding and so is street performance and ride. That plus the effort that they are putting into fixing the noise issue is why I'm still a fan! The folks at Moton really are great to work with.

Yup despite the noise I am still patiently waiting as well. There is just no other kit out there at the same level. Santa: please fix Moton's noise

Trust me the camber plates are where I am stopping (famous last words). I think that the car has so much noise isolation that the addition of just camber plates are ok. I would have preferred the hybrid camber plates, but they require a 2.5" spring which would limit wheel clearance.

I'll also point out that the rear shock mounts that come with the kit are a very nice hard rubber bushing that dampen noise but have very little slop.

Nice looking car Barry. After that picture, I'm not posting mine because it's not that pimped out I've got stock 18"s and I'm only lowered .75".

I'm not sure what suspension you are running but the dinan plates didn't give barry much more camber than my stock mounts with alignment pins pulled. I was able to get -2.1 degreess and I think Barry was at -2.2.
Heck, I'm not even sure yet how much camber the moton plates will give me. I'd guess around -3 with the plates maxed out.

according to my conversation with moton, the replacement parts are going be made in the netherlands, so it will be at least a few weeks.
