DVD and other Movie formats playable on iDrive

Hi, i have couple questions.

1) once i run a DVD, it shows the movie as a small 4:3 size ratio (almost 1/2 size the screen), is there a way to watch it as widescreen?

2) what type of movie files can i place into my ipod to watch the movies in the iDrive? which file formats does it support?
