Porsche On Fire!

A buddy of mine had the lastest CarandD and it caught my eye. The cover featured the E63, CTS-V, XF-R battling it out. The car I assumed would win definitely didnt. MB shockingly made a stout E63!

Anyhow, the mag featured a 5page road test on the PANAMERA Turbo. I'm still in absolute awe about what I read. It spoke about how its wider than almost everything on U.S. roads. It handled better than just about any sedan they can think of. I was in a rush so I sped thru it and and went straight to the specs.

Here is what I remember:

3.3 seconds to 60mph

11.7 quartermile@ 120mph

500hp 568lb tq

HOLY HELL MAN!! Sadly, I don't recall who I had a dispute with on here about how the acceleration wall sedans hit. He claimed they wont go much lower than 3.9-4.0 sec. Porsche has a car for you, friend. This thing will blow the doors off the current M5, CTS-V, E63, etc. All while being heavier and more fuel efficient. Yes, it costs substantially more but its still an incredible GT-R like feat. Isaac Newton must be riding shotgun.

Porsche is an automaker whose art is making incredibly competent sports car. With their first sedan, they have truly created a masterpiece.

Those saying it will be a flop need to clean their loop. Link below. VAG is prepared to carry this out to a T. Go preview a CarandD since its not online yet.

I've been all for it for a while now.

It looks huge in person though, that's my one dislike. Like, it's gigantic. The new M5 has to be godlike to be even competitive.

BMW needs to bring it. I mean pull out all stops. I dont care what they need to do: Kers, FI, xdrive, etc. It needs to be competitive with this thing. Its going to come in comfortably at 30k less, but still.

When the M5 debuted, it was the fastest sedan in the world. This was over 20 years old. Anything other than game changing status would not be welcomed.

This is awesome and all, but I can't get excited knowing this car is already dead with VW's acquisition of Porsche.

It's impressive but I optioned one out on the BYO site and with a fairly standard setup it came out to be over $160,000. That's crazy.

I am having trouble believing a 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds. That is really incredible if that's true.

3.3 seconds? That has to be a typo. I could believe 4.3 seconds.

R&T has it at 3.4, that is dual-clutch, launch control and AWD for you. As well as probably a tad underrated hp figures.

Its why a basic 2009 WRX withonly 265hp can get to 60 in 4.7s. No owner who wants to preseve the clutch or tranny would launch it that hard but you can do it.

and our 335s are supposed to do it in 4.8, although I dont think my manual tranny could ever even come close. Its by far the nothiest gear box I have ever driven, and the bloody lag!!!

Exactly. My STi has 380whp, sure I could prob do 0-60 under 4.0s but I'd be raping my clutch and rear axles.

Although the times I have launched the shit out of my STi it felt like I was being shot out of a cannon, I can only imagine what launch control with 11ty ft/lbs of torque feels like.

I understand what you guys are saying about it being hard on the car to do such things. I can't help but think that it was designed to execute safely 1,000 of times. It's a $130,000 car. It better not be as fragile as a highly strung modded 4cyl. My .02

Also, from what I understand, launching with the porsche pdk can be done repeatedly without much stress on the tranny and it will NOT void the warranty...

http://www.examiner.com/x-25756-Phoe...DK-First-drive

"...
When Stephen Schwartz was explaining this feature on the PDK my first question was “how many times can you use it before you either fry the clutch or void the warranty”? Stephen said that since the PDK uses a wet clutch transmission it can withstand repeated use and will not void the warranty or cause excessive wear on the clutch. He went on to describe the PDK in the new Panamera Turbo that they had been receiving their sales training in at Firebird Raceway. Stephen said that the car had over one hundred launches in the two days and the one hundredth launch was just as smooth as the first."

it looks great in person. from the pics i thought the rear was ugly but in person its not as bad. when you drive it, you'll understand why these times arent questionable. PDK launch control is ridiculous. cant wait to see it on the 997.2 turbos.

True, if you're paying $130k you should be able to launch it routinely and have it make you a sandwich afterwards.

That's pretty impressive. Not that you would use it all that often but it's nice to know a car has a feature and it actually intends it to be used (cough, GT-R, cough)

After 3.3 seconds to 60 I'd want it to change my shorts for me.
