+1 BS

Next time don't say anything and accept the ticket like everyone else you know you broke the law.

I'm not saying that there aren't bad cops out there, or ones who are trying to compensate for small penises or growing up the kid everyone hated. I just take exception to all the posts here where the OP admits to breaking the law and then is upset that they get caught. Don't like the law? Do something about it. There is a poster here that actively worked to get the Illinois tint law changed, and it worked. He took the proper steps and made a difference. Until then, I will continue to enforce the laws that are out there until some enterprising soul changes them. Do you deliberately disobey your boss or the rules of your profession? I doubt it. Just like you and the OP, I go to work to get paid. That's how I afford my new M3 Everyone has the misconception that:

a) Police departments make a lot of revenue from traffic tickets. It's not true. The average revenue from each ticket after the state takes the money to provide free public school for your kids is about four bucks. Hardly a huge incentive, but I admit I don't know about other states. Our fines are only $75

b) Cops have some sort of incentive for writing more tickets. If that were the case, I'd have the toaster.

When the comment "Go catch real criminals" gets played, I have to laugh. You have no idea what I have done in my career.

As for the God complex comment, I apologize for that. It was my ire showing through, and I mean no personal disrespect for the OP or those in his field. I am just sick of it. Flame if you have to, I can take it
I have a tough time believing that you don't go around speeding in your M3(even if only occasionally) knowing that you won't get ticketed because you can show your badge.

I have some friends who are state troopers, if we go on road trips they always drive because we can get there faster with little risk of an expensive ticket.

Well that would just be stupid! Although, you do have a point, and I have done that while traveling out of state. In some states, its truly not even worth bringing up (MO).

I Knew this was going to blow up on me, and you all have expressed differing opinions respectfully, except for Kev who has to count the number of letters after his name and make sure everyone knows it.

I am not saying that there shouldn't be courtesy for medical professionals, nor am I saying that there aren't perks to every job. Docs do an often thankless job, and with our overly litigious society, they get sued as much or more than the cops.

Ultimately, I am a car enthusiast just like everyone else here, and I have found that car guys (and girls) are the same everywhere. Even over seas, with a language barrier, enthusiasts will try and communicate! Yes, I open up my car every now and then. I have said that time and again, and I have also said that I will usually give breaks on minor speeding violations, especially to car enthusiasts.

Guess this might mean I'm old It is the moment when a something has lost all entertainment value and originality and is no longer worth watching or paying attention to.

It originates from the end of that long running tv classic "Happy Days" where they had basically run out of original story lines and ideas so they had an episode where "the Fonz" goes waterskiing and jumps over a lame, fake looking shark. The episode was so bad that it became the symbol for when a show or other entertainment vehicle should end because it no longer has anything to offer. Now when a tv show gets old or lame it's said to have "jumped the shark".

No, X-band is still being used. Try NJ, or the many other smaller municipalities that still use the older radar guns.

There are plenty of user settings if you want to wade through the documentation. However, you are not advised to make any changes without really thinking hard about it and then only if you have several hours under your belt actually using the V1.

Not much more than others. Some detectors use GPS to lockout constant bogeys (like grocery store door auto openers). In theory. In practice it doesn't work so well, gives you false sense of security which can lead to a ticket.

The V1 is constantly upgraded. Just because it uses the same case does not mean the electronics and programming are not state of the art. Plus, you can upgrade to the latest version for less than buying a new V1.

I hope I've provided insight. There are other very good detectors in its class. I won't say that the V1 beats them. In many respects its personal preference. The V1, Escort 9500* series, and the Bel STI are the top of the line. They all have a 30 day warranty. Buy each, try them for thirty days, then return the ones you don't want.

My decision was based on the fact that I've been a long time V1 user and can't do without the arrows. Falsing is no problem for me. If want bells and whistles there are third-party options but I haven't felt the need.

Cheers.

P.S. I you drive in VA or DC then get one of the "Spectre undetectable" units: the STI or one of the 9500's. And don't forget about the Escort Redline which competes favorably with the V1 (but give it a few months so all the bugs are worked out). The same goes if you're a commercial driver.

One more thing: don't think that a radar detector will make you immune to getting tickets or that they are a cop finder. Just because you pass a cop and the detector doesn't sound off doesn't mean its not working either -- the cop may not have had the radar on, or may not even have one.

Learn to drive by constantly looking out far ahead as possible for cops. This will also make you a better driver as it forces you to pay attention to the road, traffic and other hazards. I feel this, along with good judgment (common sense) will probably do more to avoid not only tickets but also accidents than anything else. Assuming of course you're not under the influence. Also, if you do this the detector almost becomes superfluous. However, the detector many times will alert a bit sooner if ou know how to interpret your detector properly.

Good luck to the OP and everyone else. Cheers.

I can't keep my mouth shut. We need both Cops and Doctors! Each of them save lives. Both jobs are very tough. We need to show both of them respect and while I'm at it this really goes for everyone.

Sure there are arrogant cops (the God complex/short penis complex/whatever) and there are arrogant doctors. The most arrogant are politicians, but don't get me started. Sometimes the doctor needs to get to the hospital promptly. Sometimes the speed limits are unrealistic. But cops need to do their job. They can use their discretion one way or the other and sometimes their decision may not be the best. And many times those decisions need to made in a split second whereas in court they will debate this decision for days. And the same goes for the doctor -- a person may die if she/he doesn't make it on time, but then again, many more could die if there were an accident along the way. There are no simple answers. Life happens.

We can surely make the situation better. Say, give cops a flashy light that they can magnetically stick to the top of their car for example. In any case, making things better is all of our responsibilities. If we just call each other names we're being counter productive. Talk to your lawmakers to fix it if you feel this is a problem.

Cops: user your discretion wisely. I suppose discretion grows from experience so be careful, learn from the older more experienced in the force. And stay safe.

Doctors: if you get a ticket still treat the cop with the respect he has is due. He may not have had the extensive education that you have, but his life is in greater danger doing his job than you are doing yours (generally speaking). That's got to be worth respect right there.

Cheers everyone. (Just don't drive afterwards.)

NJ LEAs doesn't really use X band anymore. That stuff has been gone a long time BUT they do still have those annoying "Your speed is..." signs that use X band. So, I guess you are kinda right.

Ok. I don't travel through NJ much. But there still is the odd X-band radar. If I ever leave my current commute route/local area I will turn X-band on. Note, that X-band can be completely turned off on the V1.

Sir, That comment right there is exactly my sentiment as well. I don't care what the circumstances are regarding inane internet debates, I will ALWAYS rush (Speed if necessary) to help my fellow American in times of crisis. It's good to know that if I go get all messed up, you guys will be there to put me back together. Group hug
