I disagree. the isf is on par or slightly better looking than the m3 sedan. just like the regular IS vs 3 series sedan. I think the IS is slightly nicer looking.

I think the IS F, C63, and the M3 sedan all look very good.

All have something special that makes 'em always stand out from the rest, which I admire.

He is talking about the huge rhino-like (or balooga whale-like as some critics call it) hump on the nose edge of the hood just over the radiator. Apparently, the engine is too long so they had to stretch the nose out quite a bit. It looks really ugly and makes the front overhang look a lot longer than the tail overhang (See picture below).

M3's power bulge is exactly where it is supposed to be. Well behind the front axle close to the cabin.

IS350 is indeed nicer looking than the 335 because it has great proportions. The M3 is way nicer and proportionate looking than the IS-F.

I happen to agree with that, the E46 looked far more aggressive than the E9?, in fact the only real tell tale sign that it's not a plain 3 series with an M/Sport kit is the bonnet bump. Though I do think that Lexus were trying too hard to impress, it's hood is huge and the quad pipe a bit tacking, apart from that it looks surprisingly good.

I do agree the E46 M was distinctive in its "M LOOKS", but I wouldnt say the E9x M is any less. As you mentioned, the bonnet bump is a pretty good indicitation of what it is. The E46 M also had a bonnet bump, but you had to touch almost just to know it was there. So from the front, the E9x is very noticable as being an M car. As for the body itself, the front fenders are larger, the rear quarter panels could always be wider, but go and put a non-M E92 next to a E92 M3 and the non-M E92 looks like a skinny little bitch

I think E46 M3 was the most perfectly proportioned BMW ever (not because I am biased as I own a 330 ZHP). However, the E9X in real life looks equally as aggressive especially modded, if not more.

I don't disagree, but would put the E39 M5 right up there as well.

E39 M5? Was sick at the time, but I see one now and it looks like its 15 years old.

They actually have aged quite gracefully and are from an era of BMW design regarded by many as the company's finest. Keep in mind the E39 M5 and E46 M3 share a ton of styling cues and were both sculpted under the direction of the same //M boss (Ulf Weidhase) .

Yep. The word "contrived" comes to mind, although I agree with Bruce that the car looks much better in person than in photos.

LOL, agree man. the e39 m5 just doesn't age well. it look very dated IMO.

e92/93 m3 looks very good and modern IMO. I'm still not falling for the sedan totally yet, but i guess it will grow on me.

i do think the e93 m3/e92 are very good looking. but it is not really fair to compare a 4 door isf to the m3 coupe.

I really like the coupe in real life. The sedan looks a lot nicer in pictures, but in real life they both are nice in their own ways.

However, modded is a different story. The coupe just cannot look this nice with all the mods in the world:

This is what I call "perfect proportions".

Couldn't put a finger on the difference before but I always thought the regular IS looked better but didn't know why. Now that you described a light came on. Definitely agree the IS looks nicer than the regular 3 but the M looks nicer than the IS-F for sure. The only change I would make on the M is the rear valance. I can't understand why BMW would make it so that you can see the undercarriage/exhaust/fuel tank.
Maybe its just that photo but the hood looks like it comes up as high as the rear deck lid. You knew exactly what i was talking about!

I remember someone said in another post where a young kid said "convince me I should get an m3"

..If we have to convince you to get an M3, then its not for you. lol

here this should help

Here are pics of my previous F and current M for comparison sake. I didn't find the F to be ugly, but I prefer the look of the E90 M.

I think your camera angle somewhat de-emphasizes the "elongation and thickening" of the nose. That is the biggest downfall of the styling that the front overhang is longer than the tail overhang. If the proportions looked like the IS350 with bulges added all over the place, it would have been almost a tie with the M3 in terms of looks.

It is very very obvious when you see one on the road or a picture that is taken directly from the sides at the same level especially while comparing it to IS350:

R8 = beautiful sound and unbelievable cornering. For the weekends only. (Wifes favorite).

e92 = Every day. Best all around car I have owned. A true balance without compromise. (only one my wife is allowed to drive) LOL

430 = When I dream I'm Michael Schumacher, I drive this. Most fun on a track. Plus there's something about the heritage. Driving a race car on the road brings back all those rebellious feelings haha. (wife hates it)

Don't know. The elongated and "fattened nose" looks incredibly ugly. The front overhang is longer than the rear overhang. The IS350 has very athletic looks with short overhangs.
