Anybody reach Inspection I or II yet? Mileage?

Hi, I'm just wondering what mileage you guys are hitting the Inspection I or II services. What MPG are you averaging, and how many miles have you driven before hitting these milestones?

I know the E46 used to require more frequent service if you drive it harder/get worse mileage. Is the E9x the same way?

Thanks!

My inspection 1 was at about 24500 kms and my average fuel milege is 14.3 litres/100 km including the track days that I do.

Inspection 1 was scheduled at 16k miles per the service indicator, but I had it done at 15.2k. 16k seems to be the default, unless you drive very hard. I'm scheduled for Inspection 2 at 32k right now. We ought to do a poll on this.

Hey Greg, do these cars require an Inspection every ~16,000 miles, or do they have in-between oil services? IIRC, with the E46, the car required an oil change every ~15k and an Inspection (I or II) every ~30k.

16k is the default, but could be less if you drive harder. There is no in-between change though many, including me, do one on their own dime. BMW Maintenance will also cover a change every year regardless of mileage. Inspection II should be a lot less on this car since it has hydraulic lifters vs. the E46s mechanical ones that needed shimming.

Did my inspection I at 14.9k when the service warning appeared. Average fuel efficiency is 16.5 MPG. After I did the initial 1200mi oil change, I did one at about 8k miles on my own and then it was changed again during the inspection I service. Based on the Blackstone oil testing I've been doing, 7,500mi seems to be a good interval for an oil change on this car.

Inspection services no longer exist with the E90 generation of 3-series.

The cars do get oil changes, and some of the services (trans fluid, diff, etc) are scheduled along with that.

Brake fluid is time dependant, and the Vehicle Check service comes at 30k.
