I love my M3 and I wouldn't be driving it in the winter. I think the M5 would be better suited for winter just because it is bigger imo. And it would be used and cost far less than my M3. My m3 cost 85 canadain I could get a used 07 m5 for around 53 us which is at about almost par. Anyways you guys have talked me out of a m5 I am thinking just a regular 5 series now.

While the M3 might have cost you more, it is also worth about 53K USD right now. Or well, at least, you could buy one for that if you wanted to. Not that you'd ever want two of them, but I guess the point is that you could have a second M3 "beater" for the same price as the M5, if preserving the other M3 is really what you are concerned with.

basicly AWD is great in snow! GREAT!!!!!! just a shame theres very few options on buying a good AWD car if you dont want a 4x4 suv
I'm now thinking of getting a used RS4. What are the major issues with it?

Other than it's an Audi?

Dude I was debating on whether or not to type that!

I know a couple of people that have had issues with their S5 it was ridiculous. But as of this RS4 model I haven't heard of any reliability issues.

Trying to do some research on the RS4. Is there any Audi forums comparable to m3post? The audi forums I have found so far are terrible.

I'd say make sure you get an '07 or later at a minimum. I have a friend w/ an '04 S4... and that car is a P.O.S.

His car goes into service every 3 months (Minimum)... I feel really bad for him... And his '04 A4 was the exact same.

I raced a '00 S4 Bi-Turbo with my dad back in 2000, and 2001... and the car was great... no issues... but it seems like they've had a bad spill of quality issues with the '03 and up...

But I only have my 1 friends car as an example, but I know he'll never buy another Audi... he asked his service advisor... if it's just his car... or if this is normal... his S.A. said... I hate to tell you, I have some that are worse than yours. uugghhh

But they look damn nice!

Meh. Two M's? It's OK

Now, how about THREE M's???

Our X6m is due in six days. THAT will be an awesome car, all year 'round, methinks. My wife's Z4 M Roadster will be up on the lift in the garage this weekend

The M5 will be fine in the winter. Why wouldn't it? Winter rubber is arbitrary, of course. I drove my e46 M3 in the winter, and it was great. The key is the rubber. An M5 with proper winter rubber will be better than an AWD car with all-seasons.

I don't think ANY car with winter rubber is OK. There are lots of lowered M3s on the board, that I think would not be great - they would get hung up on even smaller snow drifts. But, I believe an M5 - especially a stock M5, would be more than fine.

I don't think I'm going to get a M5 anymore. The 2 cars I'm looking at right now are a rs4 and a S6. I think I'm going to get a car in the US and import it to canada. It seems importing audi's is easier than bimmers and mercedes. Rs4 I think is my front runner but I wouldn't mind a s6 either. To the darkside. BTW I've been looking at some audi forums nothing even compares to m3post. Why are they so shit?

i know your not looking at the M5 anymore,
but my friend got one of the first E60 M5s in Canada and he drove through 3 winters, and the car was simply amazing in the snow with Blizzaks!
