I guess I am in minority, I actually like the looks of the new 370Z.

A great choice would be a used Z4M Coupe. One could be had in great condition for less than a new 370Z. Or even a used Cayman S. Both very involving cars.

Cayman S and if you get bored aftermarket companies have a kit that stuffs a 911 engine into that tiny little car. You will be in supercar territory in no time.

I was looking at getting a 370z for the wife but after she test drove it, she didn't want it anymore. The car looks good but it drives like a Hyundai (actually, I think Hyundais are better than Nissans in quality now), the interior felt cheap and noisy (absolutely no insulation), the ride was harsh and I switched the auto rev match thing off because it was irriating me, I can rev match better than the car can. The power wasn't there, it felt slower than the 350z I drove back in 2003 maybe that was a factory freak. Go test drive one and you'll know what I mean. If not, then good luck with it, it's still a good car for the money. The STi is the best car I've driven in that price range though, love the transmission in that car.

370z is a great little car but I'm not sure it is comparable to an e92 M3 with DCT. I drove the 370Z and it performed great for the price point and the synchrorev thing is kinda cool...similar to the one found on the DCT.

However, if you have M3 money to throw around ($60-$75k), why not spring for a GTR?

the maintenance on the gtr is crazy high though. like 8k for a brake maintenance. wow. i'm sure not gonna throw money away like that unless you are totally loaded.

i say between m3 and 370z. I would pick m3 all day.

but for those on a budget and like the look of the z, go for it. It sure is an exciting car to look at. i didn't like it in the pictures, but when I saw it on the highway, it catched my attention right away and I was like damn.

I did love my Cayman S as well. Very similar to the Z4m in many ways. check those both out if you want a 2 seater.
i see you have Current-M3 ZCP. is that boring or your talk about the new m3?

WHY??

why not a 6 speed m3? 6 speed 135??? Z4m Coupe, 911??

Oh and not to mention everything you put in the back of the Z, if it rattles you will hear the damn things. Drove me crazy when I rented a 350z at an airport. The zipper on my bags made so much sound from vibrations haha.

the e46 does feel like a smaller and lighter car I will agree. Depends what you define fun. Oh and the GT-R is plenty exciting in its own way.

I'm surprised you didn't find the M-DCT exciting. I too had an S5 manual but I wouldn't have classed to Audi as exciting.

The Z370 with it's rev matching downshift is a hoot, but it's still a very old school sportscar experience with heavy controls. It's still a fun car in a TVR sort of way but may I suggest checking out a Cayman S, it's also got a great manual and even better feel than the Nissan.

Why do so many use the 350z and 370z interchangeably!? THEY ARE NOT THE SAME CAR. I might as well call the E46 the E92 - both M3's right?

The 370z is a much better all around car than the 350z. I don't know why people don't like the styling (good blend of modern z look with classic 240z shape), but I thought it looks great. Its got an ideal curb weight of just a bit over 3200lbs, you can get 275width rear tires that pull nearly 1g on the skidpad, and the 100 inch wheelbase is ideal for tossable handling. Sure the interior materials and engine refinement (especially engine refinement) are not on par with an M3, but that does not make it the crap car alot on here are accusing it of being. The price/performance ratio is just as good if not better than an M3.

OP, since you are thinking of going 370z. why don't you trade for a m3 6mt. strip the rear seat, change the front seat to something light like recaro pole. basically strip it completely off and you gonna have an m3 rocket.

What a sin to suggest doing something like that to such a brilliantly practical coupe.

what a lot of people do not realize is the Z has character since the day it started. it did lose some of that character in the 350Z version, but it absolutely gained a lot of it back. The 135, although may be fast, but has absolutely no character (yet).

The only suggestion i like of yours is the Z4M, that's pretty valid, but dont forget the Z may have more advanced technology since it's coming years after the Z4M. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Z unless you have a brand loyalty issue that overcomes your ability to appreciate cars for what they can deliver

No idea footie, I have never even seen one (since I am in the US). But I'll bet that "practical" isn't something most owners would call the car. Course, that's jsut my hunch. Anyway, I was just messin' with ya. While graider's suggestion was somewhat crude ("strip it completely off"), I think what he was trying to say was that you can lighten the M3 by removing the back seat (like a CSL, right?) and have something no less practical than the 370z.
