M3 ---> 370z

I'm just not feeling my m3 the way I used to before. I used to have the S5 before with a 6 speed, and I loved that car, but the M3 with the DCT is just not making me excited to drive it. SOOO i'm considering now of letting my m3 go for a 6 speed synchrorev manual 370z, what do you guys think? any other cars i should consider? definately need a 6 speed though

I haven't driven the 370Z, but the 350Z never did much for me. It lacked refinement and the engine was very thrashy and didn't feel as strong as the numbers suggested. I understand the 370 has a more refined interior, but I don't think it will be close to the M or your previous Audi.

Have you considered a Porsche? With their current financing offers you should be able to get into a Cayman S for a reasonable sum.

I have to say it sounds to me like you are prone to making changes for the sake of having something new.

I understand you want to go back to a 6MT, but ask yourself - what was wrong with S5 6MT to begin with? And why did you buy that car vs. a 370z the first time around? Or if you like the M3, why not just get one with a manual?

My guess is that if you go with the 370z, you'll want to switch in 6 months because you need a back seat or don't like the Japanese car's quality or something. All this changing cars can't be good for your wallet.

Actually, might not be a bad idea as long as you get the Nismo edition. Not feeling the looks, but it's got some rave reviews.

Don't do it. You'll regret the lack of refinement compared to the M3.

Why don't you just trade up for an M3 with a 6 speed manual?

I've heard good things about the 370Z and I used to own a G35 myself, but I think I'd rather pick up an e46 m3 over the 370Z. Similar performance but the e46 m3 is just a timeless car imo

I think the E46 might provide that 'excitment' it seems you are looking for.

Just out of curiousity have you gotten a chance to drive the MT E92; give the 6MT E92 a whirl bro...it really is so much fun. I go absolutely nuts with this thing, I think it is very engaging and might capture your fancy.

In the end it is your decision and yours only as you are fronting the dough for it. Sorry to hear you are not pleased with your M, good luck with your future purchase.

I considered it, but was quickly reminded why it costs a lot less than the M3. The seats are AWFUL, and am only 155#. The cushion bolsters are extremely narrow at the end, and started bothering my left leg (when on the dead pedal) right off the bat. That alone killed the deal, but on top of that, the engine was thrashy (as mentioned), never liked the exhaust sound of a V6 (although this is the best by far), and the interior was noisy as hell.
If you have the funds, and you like the perfect combination of luxury and sportiness, nothing will compare to the M3. Just get a manual. Or if you want something new, buy a slightly used Cayman S for about the same coin. Good luck.

Why the 370z? I drove against that thing on the race track against a comparable driver and on uhh umm closed high speed street course and both times, nothing to be impressed with

It looks weird as hell from all angles and its competition is with much lesser cars.

For the Z world I think the 350Z is timeless and they really went the wrong way with the 370

my buddy picked up a new 370z, while it is MUCH nicer inside and the drive is better than the 350z aswell. It is no where near the M3 in any shape, way or form.
How can you even compare these two? The only justifiiable reason to get a 370z after your M3 is if you are doing it for financial reasons, and if thats the case. Then thats cool. But theres no way you can possibly think you will enjoy a 370z more than M3.

If you are just bored out of your mind by the M-DCT, do yourself a favor:

Do a straight exchange for an M3 with 6 speed manual and do the best thing you can for the transmission. Remove its only flaw. Swap the 3.85 rear end out and put the available 4.10 gears in for the 6 speed manual and it will be pure perfection. The overall gearing will be much shorter than your M-DCT right now.

You will get all the fun of the 6 speed manual combined with the best possible gearing you can have in a transmission for this engine. Car will rev a lot faster and you will have more torque in every gear from any speed. Only downside is lower top speed, but who goes over 150 mph anyway?

You need to add even crappier fuel mileage, and engine will be SCREAMING at highway speeds, which is already bad enough stock.

The 370z is so awfully cheap inside it makes me wonder what that base price of 29 grand goes to. If you want something more exciting, why don't you get yourself into a evo or a STI or maybe a cayman S. Either that or modify your M3.

M3 and 370z don't compare. To give you any helpful answer one would need to know how you are driving. Only good friends should be able to help you.

If you already feel bored with the DCT M3, then just do it.

I cannot imagine how you can feel bored with the car you have. But that stuff is subjective anyway

one thing the 370Z has going for it over the M is weight at 3200lbs.... but then again you only get 2 seats, so as someone mentioned earlier, you should look at the Cayman S before you look at a 370z because it does everything the Z does, but better.
