Rather than than registration based on weight of vehichle or miles driven per year, let's just tax based on how expensive the car is. How does that even make sense? Another example of taxing the 'rich', well, rich as defined by Obama. Maybe it's just me, but I don't consider $250k per year, per houshold in California as rich.

car registration has nothing to do with the federal government. it's all about the state you're in.

Thank you captain obvious! I never said car registration had anything to do with the federal government. Reinstating the car tax/registration is an extension of the momentum seen on a federal level. Are you arguing that it is a fair way to collect dues based on the value of the car? Yeah, I know it's all about the state you're in, that's why the states that aren't as screwed up as CA either have a flat rate or one based on weight or usage and certainly not the ridiculous amount we see in CA. So yeah, it's another example of taxing the rich. The more expensive your car is the more you pay to register the car you may drive only 10k per year. But the 30 year old rust bucket that weighs twice as much and damages the road while driving 20k a year pays $80 for registration. It's all upside down....

the rich can afford to pay more. if you can't afford to pay the registration, please buy a rust bucket and stop complaining.

Wow, you really, really, REALLY, don't get it. It's a matter of principle. I can afford to pay twice as much for a lot of things but why should I? Just because I can? That's your arguement? LOL So you never answered my question, does the way CA charge for car registration make any logical sense to you? Nevermind, you already answered that by saying "the 'rich' CAN pay for it", and that somehow justifies it. And this coming from someone who is "dead broke" (in your words) and driving an M3. I think it's you who should consider buying the rust bucket!

Cool

Meh, registration fees suck, but it's a privilege to be able to afford to drive an M3 (gotta pay to play I guess). I agree with you though Metak....a lot of California's fees don't make any damn sense, but at least we've got great weather .
