Key Reader- Average Miles per week

Gents,

I had my M3 in for service today (BMW Assist problem) and noticed when the SA put my key in the reader that the computer displayed my "average mileage per week." I didn't know the the vehicle tracked this, nor did I know that the information was stored in the key, and I'm bringing it up here because I'm curious why you can't get this data from iDrive. I would think that it would have been included with the other Vehicle Status or On Board Computer displays...

Did anybody else know about this? I don't remember seeing it in the manual, nor being mentioned on the forum.

Since nobody else has said anything yet, I doubt that the car is storing the actual value for average miles/week. The car obviously knows how many miles you've driven, i.e. the odometer. All you need is today's date and the in-service date, which no doubt is stored in the service database, and the math is easy enough. So if the key stores the odo reading, the service dept computer just needs the mileage and can do the rest... Just my guess.

That is a pretty cool feature. I am surprised that the iDrive system does not bring it up. They should update the software to do this.
