2011 Mustang GT "Coyote" Track package as fast as the e92 M3 ?
C&D claims that the Corsa R-compound car was lapping the 1.88 mile track just as quickly as the current BMW M3 they brought along.

So two prototype Mustangs with unknown adjustable shocks and R compound tires are "roughly" as fast as an M3 with worn brakes and tires on a track the driver doesn't know very well?
Your thread title sucks, you should work for Fox News.

I think what he was trying to say is that the M3 is the greatest car in the world and that nothing will ever touch it. Any article that states otherwise is biased or just plain BS.

Interesting article. It was also on Autoblog.
We need to know who supplied the M3. It'd also be nice to know what exactly was modified in the Stang.

And it still wouldn't make any difference (despite the fact that the tires seem to be severely mismatched). I wouldn't want to drive that live rear axled crap anywhere near a normal road, works admirably for a track (they say) but not much else.

Not much for a LRA either but Ford seems to have made it work even on normal roads.
Not a Mustang guy but if Ford can make an affordable car hang with an M3 I say kudos to them. I like what they have been doing lately and applaud them for doing it without bailout money. |

For crying out loud - they're comparing some guy who just happen to be at the track with his M3 against the development engineers running the '11 Mustangs.
Sorry - headline is a fail ![]()

Just another jerk in a hat...
|
Let me head the fanboys off at the pass:
"It's made by Ford. The seats are uncomfortable, the plastic on the interior looks like legos, and the car is ugly! A 335i with procede would smoke it." I think that about covers it.

I thought a one trick pony, only did one thing well, hence the one trick pony part. I think I am missing something because, I think it does like... 4 tricks, about as good as the other pony so it should be called aaaaaaaaaa 4 trick pony. Wait. Is there such thing as a 4 trick pony?

I was referring to the track package. I think it will be a great track toy, I would bet that a mid-corner bump would upset the car, and I would bet the suspension will be a bit stiff for DD use.
I think the performance that Ford has been able to extract from the old live axle is incredible, just like the performance that Chevy has been able to get out of the the "old fashioned useless pushrod engine" is unbelievable. |

You do realize that the thsi isn't the 2010 GT they are talking about its the 2011 with a 400+hp 5.0l engine. So my guess is it will be a little lighter than an M3 with similar power and should handle fairly well on the track at least for half the cost.
Of course the interior will be poor when compared to a luxury brand and it will have less in the way of technology (although SYNC is one of the better systems I've seen). They arn't marketing this towards a BMW owner. It just happens to be doing similar lap times in testing, nothing else. It will always be a muscle/pony car and compete against other cars in that category. |

Some times less tech is a good thing, you can keep it beyond 100,000 miles without shitting your pants every time you see the service bill
