Buyers take a look underneath ... Maybe some hidden price reductions

A couple of weeks ago I purchased my used e92 m3 and I have loved it! But along with buying used you get some bumps and bruises in the car.

Whoever had the car before me obviously loved to either bottom out or pull up on to curbs way tooooo much (I think parking was hard for this person).

Therefore, during my inspection before I bought it I noticed the Undercarriage felt splash guard hanging down (Pointed it out to the dealer for more discount) because it really bugged me.

You know those cars you see on the road and their splash guard is hanging on the ground and it is an eye sore.

I got the car home and I cut the felt splash guard off because it was scraping on any little bump. So I ordered a new one and replaced it.

oh well here is the picture of used and new.

Unfortunately, the bumper will have to be refinished or replaced but it doesn't look bad because it is all underneath. Luckily there is no suspension damage or any damage from that point back.

Time to have a cold one... only took about 45 min to replace and cost about 250 bucks from ECS (who by the way were excellent).

I ran over tire scraps and it ripped mine off, I'm on my second one too
I hate those felt boxes and I have not a clue what they're for. They rub on anything

Good work on the find. Did you get a decent discount?

I have a pretty steep driveway which has a subtle dip at its lowest point and then comes back up slightly into my garage. Obvi, the angle is such that my M clears it by about less than an inch (LITERALLY)...however, if I am not going at a snails pace the M sometimes will rub (those felt boxes on either side..I put a few small tears in them) so i put down some of that green astro turf stuff ...works like a charm, when my car does rub, the felt does not get torn up.

OK...back on topic....

OP, very nice find, if you dont mind me asking, how much of discount did the dealer give you?

AHA! Typical things to expect from owners who probably pushed their cars very hard.....And I don't think I could be one of them.....Or maybe...

I pointed out a lot of the flaws and my gf worked some of the numbers (she is smart like that and can bargain like a champ. But basically they had the car listed at 49 and I walked out the door with 46ish ttl... So a pretty significant discount for minor issues. Book value of the car is much more which I am happy about. I have equity in a car hehe.

I tore off one of those rubber linings you see in your pic. I never really knew where it went - Thanks for the pic. You unknowingly helped me out a ton.

The nature of the material would indicate that its a sacrificial part, most likely designed to reduce the airflow underneath the front of the car...luckily not too expensive to replace.

Seems that the previous owner did a good job in making the car lighter

I replaced my undertray as well... Once the center part cracks, it is weakened and it tears off the car when driving at highway speeds.

When I scrape, it's the little boxes that hang down on the sides, NOT my lip. I keep waiting for them to wear through in which case I will need a new one.

Does the new one come with the cables? One of mine is very frayed. I have no clue how that could happen...
