Where to buy BMW extended warranty?

I am looking to buy a used (2005-2006) BMW M3. Can I buy an extended warranty if I am not the original owner? I prefer a BMW warranty. I went with a after market warranty in the past called Warranty Gold which went bankrupt. Any helpful thoughts or advice is much appreciated. I may have my car sold soon and will be on the hunt for a M3convertible.

yes its possible I think you need to talk to a dealer for details. I think its cheaper if the original is still in effect or something like that.

You might get better help at the E46 M3 board man. Few people worry about that when you have 3 years left on the original warranty.

You can't buy extended warranty unless you're the original owner.
That's why BMW CPO cars are so popular. If anyone can buy BMW's own extended warranty, BMW CPO sales will drop.

Another way I recommend you is:
Buy a M3 from CarMax then get an CarMax extended warranty for 5 years for only 2k.
It covers Engine, Tranny and Electrical for 5 years/ 90k miles.

Cool thing is: You can even take the M3 to BMW dealership for service. You just need to pay 75 bucks deductible.

I bought an 99 M3 (31k miles only!) from CarMax and purchased extended warranty as well. At the end of the day, the 99 E36M3 (May 2014 or 121k miles) has longer warranty than my 08 M3.

Carmax is a rip off. You got lucky. This probably wont repeat itself for the OP.

As said, there are only 2 ways to get a BMW extended warranty:

1. The Original Owner Protection Plan that can be purchased by the original owner as long as the car is in the original warranty period and meets certain other criteria.

2. The CPO warranty, that can only be sold by an authorized dealer on cars that meet certain standards.

Personally, I wouldn't take my chances with a 3rd party warranty for lots of reasons that have been discussed at length here. And I sure as hell wouldn't pay a premium for anything that involves Carmax.

When it comes to BMWs, there's no free ride. You pay up front for a new or certified one, pay on the back end with repairs, or take your chances with a 3rd party company that has every incentive to find a way to deny your warranty claim if it can.

Good luck OP.

But then what happnes if you file a claim?
Is your premium going up next year?? (since its not an accident)

Has anybody made a claim/or tried this yet from GEICO?

May not much help to the OP (but to me and others who might read this....) are there dealers that will actually negotiate on these rates some, or are they all in the cabal charging the jacked up rate my dealer offered at delivery?

They will negotiate to a point, but suffice to say you aren't going to get the best price from your local dealer. Send an e-mail to one of the supporting dealer reps on this forum or BF, they will get you some better pricing. You will need the mileage and vin on your current car for them to get you the info.

Hope that helps.

If you're the original owner, you can call/email other dealership to buy extended warranty. Any BMW dealer can sell it. And.. when they know they're not going to service your BMW, I'm sure they can sell it cheaper than local people. =)

I've bought an extended warranty from a credit union in the past. Used car dealers will also sell extended warranties.
I've read that GE has a reputable product in different levels of coverage depending on how much you want to spend.

I went to Crevier for an extended warranty, and they even had a product for a car that was out of warranty. He mentioned something about how he would have to make $1,000 on a policy!!!

This won't help the OP, but tor those still under 3 years & 36k--GMAC is an option.

I've had good luck w/ them on non-GM vehicles in the past. Pro-rated as well, so if you sell the car before it ends, you can either transfer it or get a refund on time left.
