E46 M3 vs E90/E92/E93 M3
So i'll have this decision to make come next year. I was checking out the new M3's yest at Santa Monica BMW and they are all verts. Im seriously not feeling the vert
. But the silver E46 vert parked outside was listed as $39,999 (preowned) with like 29k something miles. I like the vert much better on the previous gen. But coming bak to the thread title, what would you guys choose? Keep in mind this would be my first BMW . Are the E46's still good enough to play with on the street? I sat in the new one and immediately fell in love . Ive driven a E46 before and it was a beast! its so hard to decide! |

as far as vert is concerned, new vert better than old vert. I'm sure the old one probably has some leaks now or soon down the road.
the new one should atleast not leak for another 4-5 years. hard top vert is way better too IMO. |

The E46 M3 is and always will be a fun car. I'd love to have one as a second car strictly for the track. The reasons I prefer the E92 M3 over the E46 M3 have less to do with the improved performance and fun factor and more to do with the improved comfort as a daily driver. The E92 M3 really lets you have your cake and eat it too.
That said, I wouldn't get the 'vert in either iteration, so if that's what you want, I'm not the best person to offer advice.

E93 M3 is 133 pounds HEAVIER than the current M5.
Keep that in mind before you lump the e93 into the same camp as the e90/e92 performance margins over the e46 M3. Those don't necessarily apply for the e93. Not much is written/reviewed about the e93. I think it has the same 0-60 as a Boxster though, somewhere in the 5 second range, so it's not too slow! |
