I'm guessing it didn't have an alarm. Many folks think the car comes with a factory alarm (not suggesting this is you). It doesn't. It's prewired for the factory alarm, but it's an option you have to buy.

Yes. This wheel rip-off doesn't happen around here as people do have guns, many & various. I think this is known, so no attempts.

Please don't assume from the above that I have a pro-gun position, per se.

I do however own one, but if you were me, and have had vipers around the back door / pool / creek (rattlers, copperheads; one cottonmouth from our creek) you may well see the need for a 'shotty'. I dispatch them dispassionately: then I put the gun away.

Dude that sucks, happened in your own driveway. At least they didn't key up your car or mess with the brakes.

Keep an eye on eBay. Your wheels may come up. Criminals have been known to do stupid things.

In fact, a friend of mine was enlisted as muscle by his friend to go "check out" some rims that had been advertised on CraigsList. Thing was these were very rare rims and just *happened* to be identical the ones recently stolen off this guy's car. They called up and asked a few questions to be as sure as possible they were the ones stolen, then set up a meet.

I suggested calling the cops instead, but my friend rightly pointed out the rims would likely be cataloged by police as stolen property and his friend wouldn't get them back for a long time. My argument was this: better that that it turning into something violent.

Never did find out what happened, but means it must have panned out okay.

Maybe owners in big cities should 'carve' (with a pick) the last 6 of our VINs behind our wheels (on the lip facing the middle of the car), no? Or just a symbol that would help Police (and owner) identify his/her wheels from others. Not all wheels out there are stolen. Just an idea.

Maybe that would work in USA but here in England the cops don't give a shit, all there interested in is giving you a crime number and not actually doing any work. My M3 got stolen 3 months ago (still waiting to get it back) all the police were interested in was to give me a crime number, it pisses me off because there are cctv set ups on the roads close to my house but the cops were not interested.

But there is also a full set for sale for $1,800; better deal.
