2009 Dealer Cash Exists!

First post, long time reader.

So I just email negotiated on a '09 M3 coupe brand new with a dealer in Missouri. MSRP $68,525 (incl GG tax and delivery). When I offered $1,000 under invoice, I received the reply: "Thank you for your e-mail on the M3, I checked with my Sales Manager on your offer and we are good to go!"

There must be some dealer cash out there to get a $1,000 under invoice offer accepted. I will have to ask for more, because that was too easy.

You know, I could be wrong, but I think the publicized 'invoice' is a lot hight than it was in 08. This may be one way the manufacturer and dealer are countering the consumers 'invoice' offers, by padding the publicized invoice price. I am going to look into this more, 'cause it really is sparking my interest.

I think it's because of the economy Dollar vs Euro etc. (+ usual BMW's annual increase on their prices)

That in itself does not prove there is dealer cash for M3's.

The dealer gets a significant holdback from the car when they sell at invoice due to customer satisfaction index bonuses, so invoice is not their bottom line... Euro deliveries have no CSI money when sold at invoice... so it's still a few thousand in profit in the car at 1k under US invoice... that's a good deal but I wouldn't be surprised at $3k off invoice in a couple months.

Padding the invoice price could be a possibility. It is similar to when Circuit City went out of business. When I went in looking for a deal, I realized they had jacked up the retail price and then took the discount off that price. I couldn't belive people were buying cart loads of items thinking they were getting 20-50% off. It was a joke!

All I know is, if 2 emails can net an accepted $1000 under invoice offer then there is still a lot of money on the table to negotiate for. I asked and am waiting for a reply about the Dealer Cash and if it exists. If they admit it does then $3000 under or even a little more could be possible.

There are two internet sites that state that there is currently $3,000 of dealer cash for 2009 M3s:

Good to Go doesn't mean everything is firm or confirmed the price, we all know how ugly dealer can turn into.

Normally I would agree, but the dealer attached a copy of the sticker and a PDF with the written offer. Too good to be true?

Holdbacks and advertising dollars are par for the industry. A good dealer still makes money on a car at or slightly below invoice. That being said, they have to sell a significant number at higher profit margins to be healthy overall.

Did you agree on a specific dollar amount, or $1,000 off invoice?

I'd make darn sure I knew what the expectations are before I traveled far on anything remotely vague. For example, they may claim to interpret "invoice" as the sticker price.

Good luck!

As said in a previous post, I received a copy of the sticker and a written offer (which I compared to the 2009 pricing guide). It is actually a bit more more than $1000 below the current invoice price, but the dealer has had the car more than 7 months so they may be basing it off an older invoice price.

Recommend you ensure it doesn't have a few hundred miles on it as a dealer demo car (with some unknown hard demo driving, not that we'd do that )

It says 4.62% for lease incentives, that seems low compared to the money factors that I have seen unless they dropped them recently

all these speculations are nonsense until you actually place your feet inside the dealership. Then let reality takes place. GL
