Exactly. BMW is just sticking to it's market. It doesn't need it's own version of the SLR because all you have to do is look at... the SLR. Despite it's performance and the McLaren badge on it, it's sales were unbelievably shitty and that's when the economy was good.
Stop putting stuff like painted reflectors and premium package in your signature. You're embarrassing.

Bmw's basic job is to produce sport sedans. Bmw is best at this job for a very long time. So, Bmw is doing its job good, right?

One basic argument for not producing a super car is;
"You can fell sporty image in every class of Bmw, from 1 series to 7, we do not need a supercar like Mb or Audi to have the image of being sporty"

Ok, somewhat true, Bmw is not pruducing shitty fwd cars like MB or Audi.
We can fell driving pleasure in every class, thanks to rwd, sharp steering wheel, well-tuned chassis etc...

But I do not think there is enough reason not to produce a super car.

The basic reason is economical. Bmw do not want to take the risk of a new platform which will not be profitable.

They cancel M3 CSL because of economical reasons, producing a super car
for Bmw is like light years away, that is the fact, I am sorry

What I imagine for M1 is;
6 liter twin turbo V10 with 700 hp / 800 Nm, under 1500 kg with manual transmission, so it will not be Paris Hilton's car like SLR

There are a few concept cars floating around as well.

For example:

BMW M-Concept:
(Note that the guy that made this doesn't actually work for BMW but is a professional car designer nonetheless.)
This should have been done years ago. BMW already has the engine for it.

I know that BMW does not have to prouve anything, but a good M3 is still not a pure sport car as the 911 for example. BMW does not have any car tat can rival with the 911, R8, let us say SLS, F430, coming F450, Gallardo, Corvette, LF-A, and the no more existing NSX. BMW should either do a less high perforamance car, a Z6, front engine, RWD, and two seats, available in Coupe an Cabrio.
Z6 sDrive40i: 3.0l I6 TT 326hp
Z6 sDrive50i: 4.4l V8 TT 449 hp
and the top BMW model a
Z6 M: 4.4l V8 TT with the future M5 F10 engine that should make 590 hp and rev up to 7.5K that does not weigh more than 1650 kg, best under 1600 kg.
Another really high perfomrance car would need to be the M1 with higher deplaced I6, rear-engine, RWD an two seats.
M1: 3.6-3.8l I6 TT whit more than 550 hp that rev over 8.0Kand all this in a car that does not weigh more than 1250 kg, better less than 1200 kg. I do believe BMW is able to make this, but it seems that there are no reasons for this. Can anybody tell me what are the reasons for a 2400 kg 4WD automatic transmission TT low-rev X5 and X6 M? However BMW MUST build a M3 CSL E92, and I do believe it will sell, for it will be the last High-Rev NA M car.

While I would have loved to see last year's M1 homage in production there is no way something like that can be produced in today's market.
BMW is too busy decontenting the 3 Series to sink that kind of money in a project that will never turn a profit. Alas.
