Sorry about that, the bolded part was not me yealling or getting upset a all. Sorry it came off as such.

I've had all these 'discussions' with other engineers before, and the bottom line is that they cannot prove a larger wheel within the same rolling diameter is a detrement on performance. (in any significant way)

This falacy is way overblown on the internet. People need to understand that a blanket statmement about 20" wheels hindering your performance is nearly impossible to prove. Yet the masses still think it's somehow set in stone...

Hey guys, I'm thinking about putting some chrome 24s on my car. I'll have to raise it a bit but will that hurt my acceleration?

who really cares? if you want bigger/nicer wheels. go for it. it will be a very small difference...(same difference as driving with a full tank or an empty tank)

And I still have my mind set on 18" wheels for performance. I think the 19" wheels are a bit on the big side so 20" wheels for me are out of the question.

18s are cool for the track or winter use (thats the only place I use them) aka performance wise its cool to have.

But if your talking about everyday then I think 19s are a minimum, 20s if you wanna look

18s are wayyyy too small for a car the size of the M3 in my opinion

It's always hard to go backwards once you throw on a set of larger wheels. On my last M3, I ended up selling the stock wheels because I'd never throw them on for the track like I intended.

Well, the obvious couterpoint is this statement:

I think it will be exceptionally rare (more like impossible) that all things equal (width, wheel style, tire type, etc.) that you can find any +1 combination that has less moment of inertia than the baseline case.

Of course that being said, the largest detriment to any +1 fitment is NVH as opposed to performance and indeed the performance hit is pretty small especially in a high powered vehicle.

What size tires do you have? I also have the 20" spec 5ives and 9x20 up front with 255/30/20 and 10.5x20 in back on 285/30/20. I can definately tell the difference in slower acceleration and braking, as well as the firmer ride. I have never noticed the difference between a full tank and near empty tank, but I do notice the difference between the stock 19s and these 20s. In my opinion it is a significant difference.
