That M3 iDrive controller trim is part of the actual M3 shifter console. It is not available separately.

The way is to specify in the beginning of the update which a new hardware had also been installed. I do not know how the update would respond to this given that the revolutionary controller is not recognised because of the computer specific to the auto.Want to install a backup camera

I have a 12/07 build E92. Just received the new idrive controller from Patryk. After I installed the new Euro Headlight switch for the rear foglights (a breeze) I felt inspired so I tried to installed the new controller knob. Before to took all the hardware off the old console I simply plugged in the one wire for the controller, nothing else. And low and behold, no go. Switched back to the old controller and repeated it. It works fine. Here are my two questions: 1. Is there a way to see the SW ver before I go to the dealer? 2. Is this a software only issue or do I actually have to connect all the other connections for the ashtray, power, EDC and DSC? Suggestions would be very welcome.

My hope is that once this is done, I'll have not issues. The concensus seems to be this should solve the issue.

Software Update
I'm confused.
My May 08 build E92 is due for routine service which the dealer tells me includes a software update. Can I leave the new controller in or do I need to put the original controller back in for the software update?

As stated before in the thread, remove new controller and re-install "old" controller before a software update. This way there will be no issues with the update process giving out error codes for "unknown" parts.

Again, from what little I've read and know, the software ver has to be acertain minimum. Remove any new controller before. This way as noted there will be no update issues. Also, from what I know, you need to connect the car to a OBD (on board diagnostic) computer with software. You can do this but, need the software, cables etc. I don't know of any other way than this or the dealer. I do know that if the software is of an older version, the new controller cna't be identified by the car and won't work. Know this because that's where I am. Have to wait till later to do this.

in regards to the trim, can I buy just any 2009+ trim? or do i need to find one with an idrive frame? I guess what I'm asking is, is the trim universal for non-idrive cars and i-drive cars, the only difference is, it's just a cubby hole if no i-drive is fitted?

You have to buy a trim piece specifically for the i-drive. (they are the same otherwise, but they are not universal)

Hey Guys,
My car is 07/08 E92 gen and I bought the Idrive Controller P/N 65829231118 that replaces the 65 82 9 189 050 and it did not work!. How can I check if I have the latest update? or version I have? I call the dealership and first they toldme I cannt change the Idrive controller, but later they toldme for a software update is $210.00, is that correct? Thanks for the help, Jose Last edited by mendez; 03-05-2012 at 11:23 AM. |

Hi. Am new here. I own a late 06' e90 320d. I boght a cic controller with the center console to do the upgrade. My old controller was the one with home button only.
I did everything to replace the old with the new cic controller but now the cic controller is not working at all. just the orange lights are coming up for a few seconds. What kind of software upgrade do i need? The bmw engineers told me that the car wont detect the new controller no matter what. Is that true? Please help. |

I ordered the Center Console (51 16 7 903 960) from getBMWparts.com and found the iDrive Controller (65 82 9 240 956) from a forum member. Installed in about 15 minutes. So much better than the big silver knob and single button.
Thanks to the OP! |
