What does everyone think of the current Israeli military operation due to the kidnapped Israeli soldier?

Not in favor
I disagree. While I am generally pro-Israel in most of these disputes, I think that there isn't enough justification for intervention. If there was a small retaliatory strike and pullout on a terrorist locale, that would be appropriate, I think. This kind of stuff is so irritating because the Israelis know that the US has their backs. I suppose that people in the UK feel this way about American endeavors lately.

One of my two dachshunds:
|
The fact that Israel is invading over the sake of a soldier means that they've been waiting impatiently for the Palestinians to carry out some sort of act where they can have a 'legitimate' reason to aggressively retaliate (this has always been the way of Israel - they always retaliate when disturbed).
I am not an opponent of Israel's tactics of repititive retaliation - it's also a fault of Palestinians and their allies as they are clearly aware of this characteristic yet they're still constantly poking the stick at the beast. In some sense, Palestinians are asking for trouble (e.g. the invasion) as they were clearly aware of the consequences displayed by their patience in digging that long tunnel to abduct/kill Israelis in an ambush. Then again, I can also understand their pain as Israelis instill a secret presence of Mossad in Palestine and Gaza to assassinate people secretly and sometimes bluntly via missle strikes which constantly kill innocent civilians. Sometimes these missle strikes actually kill only innocent civilians and no terrorists. I answered "somewhat agree" because one of the main concepts of psychology is that punishment/discipline only works if the punishment is harsh and swift - not gradual and moderate.

I voted Somewhat agree. I feel its harsh, but I also feel the Arabs and Muslim world needs to start passive resistance movements. They've tried violent resistance, and have got their a55es handed to them. They will continue to get it handed to them if they keep this up.
They need a Martin Luther King, Jr. or Gandhi figure. That will gather international support for their causes. As long as they continue beheadings, public executions, kidnappings, hijackings, suicide bombings, etc. etc. they will be portrayed as terrorists and then people won't really care about them. |

Israel should have never given back the Gaza. Israel needs to exist as the only beacon of democracy in the draconian Mid-East. Israel needs to secure its borders, and then kick the crap out of any country that interferes, including the use of the ultimate weapons which Israel possesses.

A Herald of Doom

Until the U.S. is willing to take a more just and even hand in it's relations with Israel, then and only then can we call ourselves "brokers for peace".
The current military campaign should be condemned at all cost. I understand the desire to find one of your own but at the cost of harassing and killing innocent Palestinians who had nothing to do with it - it's going too far.

TL boy,
I agree the middle east needs some type of peaceful figure like a ghandi of sorts...However, I think if some one like that came up he'd be assassinated immediately, before he/she could do any good. Having said that, Israel does what it has to do to survive. Guys, look on a map. It's a country the size of New Jersey in an area bigger than the U.S. surrounded by all Islamic states that want it's destruction. |

Shouldn't this be bumped to the Politics thread?
