What do you guys think of...

the mustang Shelby GT500? I'm currently considering that car or an e92 M3 and I'm having a hell of a time deciding. Money is not an issue here. What do you guys think about that car objectively?
I know that they are completely different cars and on almost everything, the m3 is the better car.
However, the shelby has 2 significant advantages: cheap modability and (imo) it looks absolutely gorgeous (even better than the M, which also looks amazing)...

Thanks for your opinions!

at the end of the day.. after obsessing over published reviews, ratings, acceleration times, top speeds, skidpad results, potential for brake fade. yada, yada, fn yada, which car's interior do you enjoy the most? Because performance aside, which car grabs your emotions? You will spend more time not driving a car (above 5/10) than you will using it to its potential.

For me and probably most m3 and P car people, it's not about absolutes, but about the total package. We really only have 5 or 6 affordable choices when it comes to performance cars. Make your pick

FYI the shelby still uses a solid rear end

Haha well I meant I can get either but I am not going to get both. I do love both however different they are. I have to admit, the solid rear is really a big downer as well as the mediocre interior. The enormous power and torque make it a thrilling ride even at low rpms which is nice.

if money is not the issue, then why would you be worried about mod pricing
Get the M and go crazy on the mods!

The 2010 Shelby GT500 is getting mad props for it's ability even compared to the 08/09 GT500.
The car mags were all surprised by how much an improvement the 2010 GT500 was and how great it handles and feels.
I think it did something like .93g on the skidpad.
Steering feel is suppose to rival BMW's now.

The solid rear axle is a drawback IF you plan to track the car for money/prize, or are a canyon carver and want to push the car to 8/10th on the public roads that may have potholes and such.
Other than that, it seems like the solid rear axle hasn't dulled it's handling much. Again, many of the car mags were super surprised by it's ability.

I guess it's now a low 12's @ 115-116 mph car (compared to the previous GT500 which was a mid to high 12's @ 113 mph car.

And as you said, it's simply a cheap pulley and tune away from 120+ traps, and with DR's probably mid 11's ET's.

You'll get crazy amounts of attention in the 2010 GT500 I'm sure.
Pull up to a car meet and people will want to check it out.

All that can also be said of the M3, but you'll see more M3's than the GT500 that's for sure.

If pure gusto and muscle along with very good handling ability for a 3900 lbs car is your thing, you'll surely love the GT500 more than the M3.

However, if you are looking for a more all around car that can work as a luxury cruiser too and show up to a nice restaurant in, or a business meeting, the M3 would be the better choice.
The M3 is fast, and can be modded, but it's mods aren't cheap and you won't get anywhere NEAR the increase in power from the mods on the M3 as you will on the GT500 (unless you s/c the M3 and that'll cost you $18 grand plus!!)

Bang for the buck the GT500 is your better choice again unless you are planning lots of track days, in which the M3 would be better suited.
Drag car? No doubt the GT500

They'd both be awesome to have in the garage that's for sure.

It's a tough choice.
If insurance costs mean anything to you too, check them out.
For me, on my insurance company (Progressive) the M3 cost about $1,200 more to insure each year. Some of that is because the M3 costs $15k more. Some of that is because undoubtedly the M3 costs more to repair if damaged.

Too me, you can't really lose with either.

While I'm not really that impressed with pictures of the Ford's interior, I think the body styling is beautiful on the GT500. Also, 540hp/510lb-ft is nothing to be ashamed of...

It all depends on which car really captures your heart.

I know its hard to make these decisions but try not to listen to other people and make a list of your own pros and cons for each vehicle. In the end get the one that puts the bigger smile on your face and the one you know youll never get sick of. Good luck

I just watched top gear last night when they were testing the GT500, (not sure how old this episode was).
To sum it up; they loved the power. hated the handling and they said it no real heart to it (if u know what i mean, sorry i cant remember the word they used).

With the M3 (like someone else said above) its a classy car that has much more purposes then a Mustang!

My neighbor has a GT500. He's 16 and he's in love with my M3 lol so naturally he let me drive his car..

It's pretty nice and the power is awesome but the interior kinda sucks..I would take my M over that car anyday but they are so easy to mod. After he does a few mods (exhaust, headers, pulleys, etc basic bolt ons) he will rape me.

BUT my car handles better

The GT500 is an extremely cool car! But the deal breaker is that it's not as refined as the M3. I think anybody would be happier with an M3 in the long run.

My father purchased a 2008 shelby gt 500 last year, and he has loved the car ever since. He says that for the price he paid, you can not beat it. The Shelby gt500 is about 30k less than the 2009 m3 e92, and the motor is amazing. The supercharger is awesome, and I myself really like the car as well. Personally, I like the bmw m3 e92 better, but that is biased on my part because I have one.

If you are going american, get a Z06, ZR1, or CTS-V.

Go test drive both cars. I bet you will come home in the M3.

One thing I will say is that Top Gear also did a dyno run on a GT500 and it was done about 90bhp as far as I can remember.
They did another car at the same time which was down but still closer to it's claim (I think Z06)

I have to go so I have no time to search but I'm sure someone will and confirm or correct the figures.

I got to drive both a 2009 E90 this morning and a 2009 GT500 ( in the rainy weather so it was a little frustrating). In summary, the M is just hands down the better car overall. The steering feel was much better, the interior much nicer, it felt much lighter (which surprised me as i thought both cars were in the same heavy weight range). The one thing is that the GT500 looks absolutely unbelievable. I had never gotten to see one up close like this, and I have to say that it blew me away.

Overall I'm heavily leaning towards the M3 at this point but I'll give myself a few more days to think before I make a move.
Thanks for all of the good advice!
