Traqmate install

While I was installing my laser jammer this weekend I decided to see if I could find a solid place to mount the traqmate core unit. The best place I could find was in the glove compartment. There is quite a bit of room in there if you remove the back plate that covers the fuse box.

Location and mounting:
- Core unit and DVR are in the glovebox. Not ideal, it's best to mount on the center line of the car near the roll and yaw axes.
- Back of glovebox separating the glovebox area from the fuse area is removed permenantly to provide enough depth.
- Both units are secured with "industrial grade" velcro (gray stuff)
- Traqmate display mounted to windshield with a Panavise 809-AMP
- Chasecam camera mounted with the chasecam three suction cup mount. Not the ideal location since you can't see the steering postion or where you are looking. I've tried in the past to mount to the driver's seat headrest, but it results in too much movement for the MPEG deinterlacer to keep up.
- GPS is mounted in the forward most right corner of the dash.
- I removed the glovebox to work on this, but it turned out that I did not have to do this.

Alignment:
- I built a sled that sits between the core unit and the floor of the glovebox that allows me to adjust the angle of attack such that the unit is level with the compartment closed.
- I used a laser level/grid to align parallel to the center line of the car
- It's probably a little out of alignment, but at least very securely attached to the car.

Power:
- I used a mini-fuse expander on an ignition switched 20amp fuse (I love these things, genius..pure genius), and added a 7.5 amp fuse to power the traqmate, chasecam, and LaserInterceptor.
- I drilled a hole in the body near the floorboard and used a self tapping metal screw to wire a ground. There are a lot of OEM grounds running around that you could use instead.

Wires:
- The display cable and chasecam extension cable are routed behind the glovebox and down into the foot well, secured to several wiring harnesses along the way. They will curl up under the mat when not in use. Note in these pics the chascam is running direct to the glovebox because my extension wire was damaged.
- You could get away with running the display and chasecam wires directly out of the glovbox and just wedging the door closed on top of them.
- GPS wire is tucked behind the A-pilar trim plate, which then gives you easy access, once you remove the door seal, to run it behind the glovebox
- All the other wires a bundled up and secured to other stock wiring harnesses.

Sweet. I used traqmate in my z06. Great system, especially with the chasecam integration like you have. How in the hell did you align it level?!

If anyone wants a chasecam system, let me know, I have a basically new one for sale (dvr and cameras and mounts)

I wanted $660, but I'll do $600 cause they havent sold. The units are indistinguishable from new, used once!

PITA - used the bullet camera and a flashlight pointed at a level with the glovebox closed. There is probably a better way....

I'm not super fond of the traqmate setup, I find it less consistent that the Racepak G2X series. That said, the software is superior, and the sync with video is very good.

Full new system is about $2K with the camera (including software). Without the camera it's about 1K.

I had the g2x also, man that software sucked!! The display was cool though. I used to point the camera forward and get the display in the bottom corner so I'd always see my speed, G's, gear etc - was nice to review without any post processing, and see some data.
