Went to Active Autowerkes today

Sadly, I found myself in Miami today (not really a fan of south florida, too crowded, too flat). However, that meant I could go to Active Autowerke. Great shop, with very knowledgeable people. I met with Omar, I ordered the x-pipe recently but it wont be installed for a few weeks.

I got a chance to see the pully, exhaust, and the super charger car. Though the car was dismantled for r&d. I was able to take one photo of the engine sans air box.

Here is the photo, enjoy.

went there myself bout 2 weeks ago, omar was very friendly and i bought an active autowerke filter. Got to hear his active autowerke exhaust which is something i'm highly considering buying over the eisenmann. Did you try the short shifter? It felt so smooth and the throws were perfect.

Michael

I sent you a PM, but what exactly are they selling you as part of the "full AA system"?

It sounds louder than stock almost everywhere. Boomy loud on initial startup, then when the mixture settles in it's not bad at all. The big tradeoff with aftermarket exausts, IMHO, is usability with the GF in the car vs. awesome sound. I have the cat-back only.

With the AA Exhaust, it's fine as long as you keep things above 2100 rpm. Below that, it's boomy; especially with the top down. I've learned to adjust to it: I don't lug it around town any more. The motor is probably happier for this adjustment, as well.

The AA is simply stunning from 2100 rpm up. It's the way this motor was meant to breathe - and sound. My E93 was a compromise for what I really wanted - an F355 - but I couldn't fit in the darned thing (and of course they're crazy $$$). With this exhaust, I'm very happy with the compromise. It isn't exactly Ferriari-like, but it's a really good sound that's not too far off.

I have a rattle apparently caused by the exhaust touching the rear X-brace that's in the E93. It's only occasional, but I want to work with it to get it to go away. In fairness I haven't asked AA for advice on that yet.

Is it a constant rattle or something aking to metal clanking against metal? I have heard something in my car like a clank and i thought it was trunk inner-cover piece locking into position. I had a habit of forgetting to put it down over the winter when using the trunk.

OP: sorry to

I had this issue with my Eisenmann Race - I took it back to the shop who installed my exhaust and they adjusted the exhaust just enough to clear the x brace. No more vibration/rattles! Hope that helps

I'm going to have to take it to a different shop - these guys just gave up when it was pretty good. It's a metal-to-metal rattle over bumps and sometimes on decel. Probably exactly what slammedm3 is talking about.
