Miami Vice

I just viewed this movie on sunday with my girlfriend and I am curious as to if anyone besides myself feel that this movie was terrible. Being that it had so much potential in being a huge summer hit, there really was no true goal in the movie and it was extremely unclear, unlike Bad Boys II, which MV seemed to borrow alot of concepts from. Anyone feel the same? Different?

I saw this movie yesterday as well but I enjoyed it. I like that the movie kept the same tone and feel of the series without being too 80s campy. Actually, the original series was really never campy with its gritty and dark feel.

Were you a fan of the original series? I think you must have at least watched a few episodes to appreciate where michael mann is going with the movie. Without that perspective its just another action flick but he kept lots of signatures in the movie (angle of photograpy, lighting, cheesy dramatic romantic moments, music etc) to make it interesting.

I also saw the movie over the weekend and didn't think it was all that bad. The only gripe I had was the way Collin Farrell played his part. They should have chosen someone else to play Sonny Crocketts' character. Just my thought.

Colin Farrell is a good actor. But he really didnt fit this part at all. Jamie Foxx did well, but there was room for improvement. There were some parts that kept the movie going, but there was much more neg. parts then pos. A big flaw in the movie was the lack of interaction between the two main characters. They didnt even really talk, nor did they really have personalities. They both seemed to be the same type of Miami cop, with the exception that one was black and the other was white. I dope there is a second, but this time with more detai/ background info/ and less advertisement.

Yeah I saw that...it must have been rolling on 22s. Too bad it got all shot up, I figured if they had kept the original RFTs, Sonny coud've hopped into the E63 instead of the Magnum SRT in that last scene Did you also check out the 300C SRT-8 in the beginning of the movie, talk about product placement.

I am surprised noone brought up the use of NOS in that F430 spyder in the beginning (car chase with the Bentley Conti GT). Did no one notice the blue flames shooting out the quad exhausts

Just hearing that F430 sing in the beginning of the movie was worth half of my matinee admission Try not to laugh so hard about the Naawwsss...also check out the sound of the offshore cigarette boat, Sonny uses...awesome. Now that I think about it, I don't remember the story as much as I remember the toys

i saw it yesterday and i liked it. i'd give it 3 stars out of 4 but my question is what happened to the original theme music? i was waiting for that music the whole time. those go fast boats were f-ing sick. best part of the movie was going out for mojitos.

The movie just seemed like it was missing stuff. Like the camera that they used was the same in collateral, and it didnt do any justice. But I agree the cars were sick! The F430 was a monster, including the NOS used to catch the Bent. coupe. I was mad about the 645i, they should have shot up the charger or the deVille.

yep agreed, its the same style camera as in collateral, I thought it added to the movie. So you did catch the NOS on that 430... Also, they did shoot up the bad guy's Deville...what I found missing was a proper soundtrack, the original series was like an ongoing music video/showcase of fine 80s music.

I think most people who see this movie are expecting more of a Will Smith-style action flick...........however, as mentioned above, the best way to enjoy this movie is to get a feel for the original TV series. Michael Mann has a certain style of filmmaking......the look and feel is his trademark.

If any real fans remember the TV show, many parts of the storylines are told through facial expression and non-dialogue scenes as opposed to having EVERYTHING literally being said. Even the characters themselves were soft-spoken, not the loud-mouth, f-bombing type type.

That being said, I really liked the movie..............yes, the cars were SICK!!

I used to regularly watch the show... I liked the show better than this. Maybe it was the goofy looking Colin Ferrell, or Jamie Foxx, I dont know, but what I did not like about it is that it dragged on, and unncessarily wasted time on "stupid" parts, like when they show 10 minutes of the stupid speed boat and they are going to Havana for a Mojito. Not needed. The scene where they are in that chinese girls bedroom and looking at her parents pictures.. WTF? I was about to start snoring. Sooo boring!

They should have AT LEAST had the original Jan Hammer score. That was one of the best show music pieces. I read somwhere that Colin Ferrell actually worked undercover for a few months to "learn" the inside trade. I can't see that, I think he was really bad.

And what cars were sick? I saw your average Ferrari (modena perhaps?), no big deal. I saw a 6 series, okay that was nice, but I see better ones on the streets of Houston all the time, there was a charger I believe... what else? nothing much really. James Bond movies have better cars by far.

I liked the movie because it was different than most of the action moved and liked the story and characters. The boat and gun scenes were really nice but I was really wishing for few more action scenes. I just thought there were way too many scenes with Colin Farrell and the Asian girlfriend.

The gun scenes were kind of cool, but most action movies these days have that. Nothing really fresh. I thought the stupid yellow boat sucked. They should have had a sleek Yacht or something.

They used to use a ferrari back in the day if I recall -- back then the ferrari was more than it is today. Today they should have used a more exotic car, like a Bugatti Veyron. That would have been awesome. I don't even double take a ferrari anymore [not that they are not nice, i still want one].

I agree with you but the way they shot the gun scenes were really different and felt unique to me. And I really enjoyed seeing the Ferrari as well as BMW 645i. I'm sure people would talk about how a undercover agent could afford a Bugatti Veyron with his salary..
