275/35/19 is much better. I'd only recommend going with a 30 series sidewall if you're tire width is 295+. I'm at 285/30/19 in the rear, and I have some regrets. I'll be going 275/35/19 on my next set.

I think 285/30 in the rear is fine. What issues are you having? Mine is great.

No performance issues, I just prefer the rear tire sidewall a bit thicker than the front tire as it was with the stock setup. Makes the car look beefier IMO.

while we are on the subject, so would 265/35/19 and 285/35/19 appear awkward with the rear having a bigger sidewall?

i would think going with a 285/35 would give you a more aggressive raked look. much better than having the sidewall smaller in the rear.

No, that would be fine. Stock rear already has bigger sidewall. It's only 4mm difference.
