great price on extending your maintenance plan!

To any M3 owners who are interested, I know someone at a dealer who can sell the 2 YR/50K mile maintenance upgrade for $1,695 (THIS IS NOT THE WARRANTY UPGRADE)

Front and Rear Brakes and rotors alone on this car would run you more than that if done at the dealer.

You are buying this maintenance upgrade through a BMW dealer on the east coast and it will work at any authorized dealer in the United States.

So with the upgrade you'd be covered for maintenance for a total of 6 years up to 100k miles?

You are buying this maintenance upgrade through a BMW dealer on the east coast and it will work at any authorized dealer in the United States.

Well, this being the M which costs more to maintain, not sure if those extended maintenance pkg is worth it.
I had it on my previous BMW and it pretty much covered oil change.
This is worth is if you drive close to 100k miles in 6 yrs, but not if you put avg miles for the first 6 yrs since dealers won't authorize a lot of maintenance just by time alone.

I paid $1300 for the extended maintenance on my 03 E46 M3. At the time I needed front brakes done so it was a no brainer. And then I had the rear brakes done. And then I had the Inspection II with less than two months left in extended maintenance. all this was done after the normal maintenance warranty. Getting that inspection II done was huge, helped me sell my E46. I remember I had to drive a lot and really hard to get that service indicator down

The price does vary from dealer to dealer. My SA talked to the Finance manager and he gave me a deal.

Anyone know what the time/mileage limit is? after a point this is no longer available.

You can no longer buy it after the original 4/50 plan has lapsed. Also, AFAIK only the original owner/purchaser of the car is eligible to purchase the plan.

Inspection IIs on the E46 are expensive because of the mechanical valve adjustment. I'm hoping the E92 is going to be quite a bit less.

You can buy extenced maintenance any time before the standard maintenance plan expires.

does the e9x m3 require valve adjustment? the other day i noticed one of the stickers under the hood said "no valve adjustment required" or something..

This sure sounds tempting, because this thing may pay for itself with one brake job!

Looking at the press release in the above link, it loos like the service is transferrable to a second or third owner. Would a second owner be able to extend the service if its before the 4y/50k mark?

As my last post alluded to, the current S65 engine uses hydraulic lifters, so no valve adjustment (like the shims on the S54) are required. That was a several hour job, plus parts, on the E46.

I'd take the $1700 and invest in some high yield securities paying 14% interest. By the time the extended plan kicks in, I'd have another $1700. Question is whether you will get a brake job in the 24 month period of the warranty. I only put about 8K miles a year on. Hopefully I get a brake job in year 4 or 5..... THen the extended is a big waste! Besides, my friend is a mechanic and I would not use BMW for post maintence plan work.

I think the extended plan is a big rip.....

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Been snapping up the trust preferreds issued by some of the financials. Also, some of the midstream pipeline stocks (ship has sailed on most). On the low side you get 9%, on the high side 16%. Problem is that many have appreciated dramitically in the last month. I was buying them all along though. For instance Merrill ( MER-PM) moved from the 8s to the 11s. It is still paying almost 14%. Citi (C-PZ) is still paying around 16%. It moved from the 8s as well. Both were even lower in Feb.

Point is if you are going to gamble, this for me is a far more sure thing bet than the plan.

Before anyone argues with the safety of these, I have to add that I have been doing this for a living for 17 years and have successfully beein income investing all along.

The beauty is that you not only get the interest payments, but at these depressed prices you are virtually certain to get significant appreciation as well.

A couple months ago I recommended the Bank America trust preferred on another thread at 11 a share with a 14-15% yield. It is now 15..... (edit: back in high 13s)

One trick is to buy it just before the original plan expires, not when you buy your car.
