Car and Driver tests the CTS-V Auto: 0-60 in 3.9s, 12.2@119 mph

Excerpt from Car and Driver:

" ... You already know that for all its substantial mass—this test car weighed in at a hefty 4268 pounds—the performance king of all Caddys is capable of serious haste. In our first road test, we pedaled a manual CTS-V to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, to 100 in 9.7, through the quarter-mile in 12.6 at 116 mph, and on to a top speed of 191 mph. Heady numbers. But the automatic CTS-V trumps almost all of them: 0 to 60 in 3.9, 100 in 8.7, and the quarter in 12.2 at 119. Top speed with the automatic, achieved in fifth gear, is redline-limited to 178 mph, but it’s hard to think of many situations where this could prove frustrating.

The Caddy’s zero-to numbers compare favorably with those of the slightly smaller but similarly priced BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. For further perspective, a BMW M5, which is basically the same size as the V, hit those same marks in 4.2, 9.4, and 12.5 at 118 mph, respectively. And with a base price a little more than $60,000, the CTS-V starts nearly 30 grand below the M5—and Mercedes’ E63 AMG, too. Call us crazy, but we think it’s hard to ignore a dollar disparity of that magnitude, good times or bad, especially when the Caddy’s back-road footwork is just as fancy as that of its Euro rivals, with the bonus of respectable ride quality ..."

I agree. There are some decent cars coming out of Detriot these days, the CTS-V among the best, but I don't care for how most of them look. I like the latest Z06, but the retro Mustangs, Chargers, etc. don't really do it for me--a former '66 289 Mustang owner. The CTS-V looks like a brick on wheels though--not appealing to me.

Tell that to the oodles of young rock, rap and other music stars as well as young film stars (even teenagers) driving Caddy's.
Or tell that to Shaq who has 3-4 Custom Caddy's himself.

I personally think the CTS-V looks badass. But wish it was a bit smaller.
I hope the days of each new model car getting bigger is over for car manufacturers. Spend the next 5-6 years getting the cars back to the size they were 8-10 years ago.

I'm 29 and love everything about the CTS-V, looks, power, performance, luxury. My only complaint is that the Auto should not be that much faster than the manual. That's treason! But you've got to love that 1/4 mile time! Hats off to GM, they finally built a unique car that can rival the Germans in many aspects.

It's pretty well executed. Even "Top Gear" gave it the thumbs up - and they don't tend to praise Yank metal often. I'm not into the looks.

Is the CTS-V under threat now that GM is having major financial issues - thought I read somewhere that some of these niche cars were for the 'block....

Saw a nice caddy parked during brunch today, the driver was 75 walking .5 mph and in a handicapped stall. GM needs to work on marketting and branding if they are serious about this.

You guys with the insinuations that only 75 year old people drive Caddy's are funny.
You know 75 year olds drive BMW's and Mercedes too in MASSIVE amounts.
Does that mean you'll pass on your next M or AMG car?

I went to a test drive at the caddy dealership, they said they didn't want to stock cars with a stiff suspension b/c most of their clients liked the boat feel. Older demographic. In my area it holds very very true.

I wonder how hard it will be to service this car in 2 years when GM goes broke? or will Obama fix my car himself?

Yeah, seems like even with all the help GM will be no longer real soon.

The performance and response is top notch but, IMHO, the looks need some drastic changes. As far as driving age is concern, there was some study on the median age of car owners/drivers. If I am not wrong (I am usually am), the caddy median age driver is higher than an M3 driver.

Come on, he went down to Trinidad to shake hands with Chavez, he won't come to Toronto to help out GM?

Canadian gov't wants nothing to do with helping GM or Chrysler plants up here!

The numbers don't lie, that Caddy sure does haul! But coming from a Corvette that I've owned for the last 11 years, the cars are great but they're not put together very well.

They start out well, but then after a few years the interior components start to shake, rattle and roll and the rest of the car starts making odd noises as you drive over bumps. I'd like to see how tight that Caddy will feel in a few years.
