I ordered my Eisenmann Race and especially after the break in period with the exhaust, the sound was totally different from the videos i watched online, it was 1000000x better!!!
I am from the Seattle area (50 miles south of Seattle really...). May I ask the cost of your system installed?

I have to say, the one thing I have become leary of is other's getting near my car. I have had a couple of bad experiences with idiots leaving paint on the leather (dealer fixed a dent in the hood; body shop moron moved the car with Alpine white paint on his hands), Safelite Auto Glass after getting a bad rock chip repaired (with only 1300 miles on her ) same friggin thing; this time just dusty over-alls. But still all over the black leather and steering wheel. I am going to go nuts if i have to detail my car again because of some idiot, inconsiderate, fat-head messes up my car again. Does anyone do quality work anymore???? SHEEZE!

Anyway--I'm done with my rant

I bet if you would have two cars side by side ( stock and aftermarket exhaust ) you would see/hear the difference ... I loved my stock before I got Eisenmann ... Day and night !

It is not just about sound.

There is some very nice gains to been seen from a full exhaust. The RPI setup has many dynos to prove it.

Yeah, but at what cost? Not legal, won't pass smog, crap from the dealers and possible warranty issues or loss of warrany, CEL lights, and in some areas (think So. Cal) tickets for illegal exhaust, and they crack down in that area.

Unless you go with a full race system and deal with the above issues, the gains are not much at all for a cat back system.

Dude, the stock exhaust looks like a bladder from behind!!!! The sound is not horrible, but it's not mean enough IMO.

why are you thinking of going with a different exhaust? are they more quiet since you said your exhaust is too loud?

If you want your stock exhaust to be louder, try removing the insulating materials in the trunk. May help a lot.

Stock sounds ok. Personally I like the exhaust to be loud and obnoxious.

To each their own.

Can't wait to get this on my car

primarily, unless you're at WOT, it's too quiet. secondly, it's heavy. and lastly, it's ugly. need i say more?

The stock exhaust is only loud at WOT, and yes it does sound beautiful. Other then that it's quiet.

Aftermarket exhaust are great, especially with gains like RPi, AA, and RR but to introduce drone into these cars is just a sin.

I am always amazed when I take my car for service and the attendant drives my car to the service bay and I am able to hear the exhaust. My thought is "damn that sounds goood." But the car is so quit sans moonroof that you don't hear that much without the windows being down.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

the stock muffler is quiet and heavy and the cans themselves are small...They look good and it sound pretty darn good but I already know after I install the AA that my performance HP and torque will go up, the free flowing exhaust and x-pipe will allow for a deeper more aggressive tone and my smile on my face will hurt more for a longer period of time.

If you think the exhaust is fine then that is all you.....spend the money elsewhere!

Why get an aftermarket exhaust?

1. Tone (can't get much better than the OEM here, IMO)
2. Loudness (I don't want to draw too much attention so I wouldn't want it louder)
3. Looks (this is the only thing they botched, IMO; the mufflers look like big nuts hanging down ready to scrape the road)
4. Power (OEM is pretty good so not too much gain here w/o cat delete, tune, etc.)
5. Weight savings

The only thing that would prompt me to change the exhaust would be the looks. Though I think I'd rather spend the money on a diffuser that covers up the mufflers.

I'm with you, Fly. I won't be in any kind of hurry to change anything on my car. I think the M engineers did a great job with the whole car and I trust them more than most aftermarket tuners.

However, I have been impressed with the gains and weight savings that some are reporting and will keep an open mind. I wouldn't want mine much louder than stock though.

I am thinking about doing only the exhaust mod for the M3. I think the stock ride height is perfect and at my age (30), I no longer want to be going sideways to clear speed bumps.
But since I DD my M3, I am just wondering if an aftermarket exhaust will become too much to bear as time goes on. I have a 25 mile 1way commute to work.
Does anyone with an aftermarket exhaust DD his car?

I wonder how it would look if you just painted the mufflers a flat black? Probably wouldn't hold up.

I agree with everything except point #3--it's not THAT bad...

i like everything, except i find the actual tips too small, and would prefer a larger thinner tip...other than that, i like the sound.
its not nearly as menacing or loud as the c63, but i think this car already attracts quite a bit of attention, most of the time you re revving it high, so its relatively loud.
and, why give cops one more reason to pull you over, and bmw one more reason to cop-out on warranty work.
save-up for the supercharger, then tinker with the exhaust...i think
i was and still kinda am toying with the idea of the eisenmann, im leaning towards no...

i completely agree with your entire statement. i used to had obnoxiously loud exhaust on my m3 and hated it. i'm back to the stockers and completely happy. you can simply go to a muffler shop and have your resonators and secondary cats removed for cheap if you want a more aggressive sound.
