Radar Detector/Laser Jammer
I am buying a M3 this weekend and currently have a V1(which I LOVE and has saved me from several tickets) however I am considering maybe getting a K-40. What are your opinions? I heard there was something cheaper and better that competes with the K-40 but am unaware of what it is. Should I keep my V1 and just get a laser jammer? I would prefer to just get the K-40 because its concealed and no one can see it. What will give me the best protections?
p.s. I have done a search and couldn't find the answer i was looking for. thanks for the replies! |

Escort 9500Ci is the best stealth combo system, but very expensive.

I strongly advise against K40... I tried it and it's a piece of shit. V1 is great, but if you want something concealed the escort 9500 is highly recommended.

I had the Escort SRX in my E46 and liked it a lot, radar detection and good laser "shifters". Completely stealth which was important in my 'vert. I had to stop using it a couple years ago when they outlawed laser jammers in my state (CO). You might want to make sure they are legal where you live (most states haven't made them illegal but worth a check before you drop big $.)

I have the Laser Interceptor (LI). It is the best performer together with Laser Pro Park (LPP), however LI is upgradable to account for newer laser guns and it sends out the proper coded laser signal so the laser gun doesn't know it is jammed. You can find the full test results if you google "Guys of LIDAR". It has saved be twise from cop laser guns - I am very happy with it.

Check out www.radardetector.net. They have a lot of discussion on this sort of stuff. I think you are making a good choice sticking with the V1. The linked site should help with the laser jammer stuff.
This guy on Youtube has a ZR3 jammer and he has a bunch of videos showing it in action. Looks pretty good to me. The key with jamming is even if you get one that "Jams to Gun", you use the jamming period to hit the brakes and then turn off the system, so they clock you at the speed limit.

As an alternative to the 9500ci, any of the 8500/9500 windshield-mount detectors will link to and pair with the ZR4 shifter. The ZR4 has a control module that supports an interface cable (including power) to and from the detector. The detector will display anything the shifter is doing, as well as support the mute and disable features of the ZR4 system. You essentially do not need the ZR4 display module if you are using it with an Escort detector.
I installed a ZR4 and an 8500 on my R1200RT and it works well, for about $800. This setup doesn't have the GPS features (I can't really use themon a bike anyway) of the 9500ci, but it costs about half as much and you can still move your detector to another vehicle if you ever need to.
