M3 Sedan confirmed in spyshot and report! (with quad tailpipes and hood bulge)!!

Check this one out fellas. In Autocar Magazine (UK mag) July 12th issue they have pics of a E90 sedan with a hood bulge, quad tailpipes, wide track and cooling fins on the differential.

"Power comes from a 90 degree 4.0litre V8. Based on the 5.0litre V10 used by the M5, it uses electronically actuated throttle valves on each cylinder and Vanos variable timing. At 3999cc the four-valve per cylinder unit is 753cc bigger than the 3.2litre six-cylinder engine it replaces.

Secrecy surrounds the exact power output, but sources hint the final figure will be close to 412bhp....torque is also expected to increase by around 40lb ft to somewhere in the region of 310lb ft.

Bmw insiders say the new powerplant will rev to 8,250rpm...channelling drive to the rear wheels is a six speed manual gearbox although buyers will also have the option of a new seven speed SMG with steering wheel mounted paddles and shift times of 65 milliseconds- 20 percent faster than todays six speed system"

This is so awesome to see the M3 returning to sedan form. I thought they shoulda made the E46 in sedan too. I can see it now, M3 sedan next to an M5 sedan, brothers setting the benchmarks in their respective sedan classes. But there's definitely gonna be an M3 coupe too right?

What do you think will be more expensive...4-door or 2-door? The obvious answer may be the 2-door, but I'd like to know how it worked before. When there was 4-door model in the past, was a 2-door model an option? If so, was it more expensive? In any case, I am losing sleep over this vehicle. I want one, NOW!!! My current lease runs out in 2007 and I have my eyes set on the M3, in any variant. Woohoo!

the E36 had a saloon, coupe and cabrio available at the same time ( we didnt have all here so I dont know price differences )

In 1998 the M3 sedan and coupe had the exact same MSRP of $39,700. And no coupe wasn't sold as an option. They were sold as different models, as they had different chassis.

On a side note, why would you think the coupe would be more expensive? In fact, many consider the sedan to be superior due to the additional torsional rigidity. Why an E46 coupe costs more than a sedan is beyond me...

Because they usually give the coupe more standard equipment. This usually becomes a wash after all is priced out.

coupe is considered more "sporty" so they charge alittle more for that.

Nice. Funny thing is rear wheels (alloys) are different then the front. Interesting. Not sure if BMW would even test with different alloys. I didnt quite see the ///M marks on the side. let me double check.

//M test muels never have //M markings

They often test with different wheels in the begining
They have to get wheels with the same offset as what the proper ones will have , and the chances of finding a pair of BMW rims like that already produced are about 0

For interest the front rim is a 18" 7 Series rim, and the rear looks like a 18" E39 5 Series rim

Makes no difference. This is a test car, they are testing engine/drivetrain and chassis.

It doesn't make any difference if the M-badges are missing or the wheels are what they are.
