Lets talk H pipes....

Mad props to AA for building a beautiful looking and sounding X pipe that actually made good power. But IMO, the 2K$ price tag is a little over the top.. for me at least.

So.... I've been thinking and I want to test out a midpipe of my own. I know someone on this forum has tried it with huge success gaining 90wtq with a similiar setup!

I'm thinking of pulling the second cat out and replacing it with an H pipe as opposed to an X pipe in hopes of gaining more TQ then HP. If anything, this car lacks low end TQ and an H pipe will definitely help. I would probably leave the last resonator in to keep the sound somewhat tamed.

Those with info or personal experience please chime in... I know someone is running with this setup and you need to post a video and dyno graph asap!!!! Sound is a huge concern for me. I dont want a loud nasty raspy sound. It must sound good or I wont do it.

H pipes have been used by american cars for quite some time now. If you look at alot of the aftermarket offerings for the american cars nowadays almost all of them are now offering some kind of x pipe design. They finally realized that it's a better and more efficient design than the H pipe and makes more power across the board. From my experiences the H pipe will give the car more of a stacatto rumble. The X pipe will give you a higher pitched exotic sound.

Isn't the factory mid pipe an H pipe? It looks like there's a crossover in the pics I've seen.

+1. After chaning my X-pipe, the car has become very high pitched. I love it cause it sounds so exotic not that the m3 is one but it sure sounds like one.

The M3 V8 sounds exotic out of the box. The X pipe just adds to that and makes it louder.

To the original poster, I would personally stick with the X pipe over the H pipe. It's been proven over and over that the X pipe is a better performer for both TQ and HP. The M3's V8 isn't a TQ monster and the only way your going to see a SIGNIFICANT increase in TQ is with internal engine mods (cams) as someone stated above.

The x-pipe improved my consumption after cat and resonator delete. You can check out my X-pipe modification here.

we really need some clear videos of the X pipe setup on your car man.... like without music, without tunnels and garages. just an outside video of it revving and then taking off hard.

It does look like a siamese after the primary cats. Are the pipes open to each other?

I think this setup will gain maximum tq and some hp too... judging by what the other member with the H pipe claims (90wtq).

I honestly am just looking for a clean sounding setup that doesnt LOSE power so I am not expecting the world... I just want it to sound loud but clean. Xpipes are known to be raspy while H pipes deeper.

I too want to see a dyno graph.. supposedly its this exact setup plus a ECU flash that gained all this tq. I dont expect 90wtq though..

I am more concerned with the sound.

Here is a a great example... all he has is an H pipe, exhaust, pulley and scoops

Look at the numbers with just that and not even a tune or filter!!

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...8&postcount=16

here is some more stock numbers to compare

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...k+dyno+numbers

seems h pipe is pretty promising

you are right H pipe are deeper with x pipes being more raspy......

H pipes give you more tq where as x pipes give you more hp up top (which this car has plenty of)
