M-DCT Lag issue. Owners please post your car info here

First off, sorry for yet another M-DCT thread. However BMW NA in their infinite wisdom seem to be in denial mode right now, claiming that no one is complaining about the M-DCT 2nd gear lag issue other than me. Nice.

So what I would like to do, is compile a list of owners that currently have the problem.

All you need to do right now is post the last 7 digits of your VIN number. So I'm starting this off. I'll update this original post as needed. You can PM me, or post to this thread.

Everyone else, I appreciate your comments and stuff, but please can we keep this thread clear of comments other than the cars affected by this.

Lets see how many cars have this issue. Obviously right now ... just me according to BMW NA.

Apw2607 VIN# PY40518 M3 Coupe. Built March 2008.

UPDATE: Report your issue to the NHTSA: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=275116

BMW has acknowledged the occurance and written it up according to my mechanic. The bad news is they are saying that it is designed that way.

i have tried to turn a blind eye to this problem since i took delivery of the car, however, since the 2nd/3rd gear lag problem is such a common scenario, such as making a rolling turn and accelerating out of it only to have it lurch and hesitate is REALLY starting bug the fuck out of me. i have been patiently waiting for the next DCT update which never seems to arrive. this better be fixed son.

Here here!
VIN#P330785 M3 Convertible. Built July 2008.
Like moog, I've become really frustrated by this behavior. It's not at all intermittent -- it happens every time the car drops into 2nd gear when slowing (and not completely stopping). Decelerating to turn corners is an exercise in frustration (especially with passengers in the car) because the car won't accelerate out of the corner right away... and if it does, it does so rapidly, throwing everyone's heads into the headrests. I've tried upshifting to third gear, but there's a lag in that as well if I've already given the car some gas. I've had the first software update performed (that seems to have fixed the stalling in 2nd gear) and am really hoping BMW sorts the rest of it out and issues another update. This is souring what has otherwise been a brilliant ownership experience.

Hey guys, footie claims the last update he received cured the lag issue on his car.

Maybe BMW is testing a new update in some geographies? Unfortunately footie does not know what version of PROGMAN he got.

As for car info, well mines an '08 E93. I don't have the production number handy but will post it when I do.

BTW, TheBry, if you and your passengers don't mind the 8 cylinder symphony and sneers from onlooking rice-rocket and minivan drivers, try downshifting into 1st instead of upshifting to 3rd. Takes care of the lag in 99% of situations.

Yes, this serious safety issue still exists in the MY2009 M3s

I've given up on BMW/NA fixing this on their own. I, like several others have complained to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. There appears to be about a half dozen complaints on this currently. If you have this problem, get your VIN handy and put in your two cents worth.

Yeah it is clearly not just you when there is a BMW bulletin about it.

Keep in mind a small % of M3 owners read and post here.

I do have the issue and my VIN is: PY40799.

I recommend that you mention a real near accident situation if you were involved in one. "Hypothetical" complaints about the safety of the car are not going to be as effective as "I nearly died today" complaints.

This issue persisted after I had the recall notice done in Jan. Starting in first does solve the issue but is jerky in another way.

A bit off topic but I am about to send a complain letter to BMW Europe regarding the DCT lag (copied also to BMW Greece). Does anyone know the address of BMW Europe to which I should send this letter?

My advice would be to keep complaining to the NTSB and consider working up a class action suit against BMW.

Someone needs to get the URL www.m3classaction.com or something like that and get the ball rolling.

I hope you have better luck than I did. I originally sent an e-mail to BMW UK Ltd, about the lag, that was over 3 1/2 months ago and still waiting a response.

Maybe BMW UK are as bad as Audi of America.

Did you call them first to ask to whom you should address the letter to or you just sent it to the relevant address without a specific addresee? I think if you direct it to a specific person then at least someone feels personally responsible to reply!

I sent it to the customer services department as adviced by the dealer.

Footie, do you still think the problem has been cured on your car? Have you noticed any other disadvantages of the software you have now?

Shock, horror, I got the lag (though briefly) for the first time and at the very corner it use to be present at, but instead of D2 being the problem it was D4. I tried it again on the way back towork after lunch but it was gone ski reckon it was just the engine and gearbox being cold. Though even when cold it's not being here in D2.

Will keep you posted.

P.S.
Everything else is spot on with no complaints from me.
