As I understand it, the sole purpose of the electronics supplied with the kit is to overcome that obstacle--it makes sure the relay always sees at least 12V regardless of mode. camaro, correct me if I am wrong.

you are exactly right..... bmw engineered it so that there is not enough voltage, apms, etc. thats why all the angel eyes.... even led's are so dim.......

did some measurements today
the angel eyes only receive 10.75 volts when the headlights are off
so at max brightness they are only putting out 31 watts, not 35watts
and when you turn the headlight on
they only get 3.3v!!!
at that voltage they are putting out less than 10watts!
so of course they are dim

i tested both sides cuz i could not beleive they only get 3.3v
but both sides match exactly

so all you would need to avoid the bulb warning light if you wanted to use a relay
is a 1 ohm 10 watt resistor
that would trick the car into thinking the H8 bulbs were still connected

so you can get a relay, give it power from the battery
and trigger the relay from the headlight wire
that wire receives 12v when you turn on the HID lights
so you would activate the relay

Hmmm...I measure 12.0 v with headlights of and 9.36 v with headlights on.

if it were 9.6v you could use a relay

did you measure with the engine on or off?
i measured with engine on
and i measured both sides to be sure
and both sides matched up

10.75V with only Angel eyes
3.3V with xenon on and Angel eyes dimmed

turn signal was 14.4V when turn signal was activated
and 2.5V when the turn signal is lit with the angel eyes only

trying to see if i can use a resistor and a relay to get rid of the stupid orange light
