It is very economically inefficient to concentrate wealth as money is spent on more and more superflous things. Consider Ballmer and ellison's yachts, abramovich's missile launchers, etc. This money would have been more efficiently used in the hands of the less wealthy. Certain individuals, like Buffet, act responsibly and help create a more efficient economy, but those guys usually figure out a way to pay no income tax whatsoever (Buffet has stated he pays 17.5% income tax (less than us) and has no shelters).

Here is a good article from the oracle himself:

The movie Wallstreet is wrong. The Economy is not a zero-sum game(the economy is not no limit texas holdem'). One person's wealth does not take away from another.

The problem with the school system is not money related. Washington D.C. spends more than any other sector on education and they produce some of the weakest students. No matter how much money you spend in a kid, if they are not motivated to work hard it is all useless. Parents need to kick their kids in the ass to stay ontop of their work. My friends growing up, who come from families with strict discipline are becoming working professionals.

I wasn't blaming Bush for underfunded schools, but he has neglected the problem.

Right, so you're saying the funds should be increased, so that the money that finally gets down to the schools is increased. When all that is needed is for the boards and the unions to take a little less, they are the ones living a lot nicer than the teachers. Even as teachers though, several of my teachers who actually got major degrees in sciences and math, told the class being a teacher gave them a decent living, that its the guys above them who suck the money from the schools. The union dues are too high, and its not like they can go against them, and what can they do to stand against the board for more of a percentage of the funds to actually go to helping out the schools.

Good one! I bet you don't any takers on THAT suggestion. People's own money is precious, but let's go ahead and make the OTHER guy pay more!

It's a 135i - but one of our members calls it a 335i Short Wheel Base (an allusion to the BEST Ferrari ever, the 250 SWB GT). It's a coupe.

So the school system doesnt need more money? Are you really going to argue that point? The school system cannot get enough money. As long as there are out of date text books, music, art and sports programs being cut and class sizes in the upper 30's to 40's the school system needs a lot more money. No child, regardless of his families financial state, should have to share one teacher with 35 or more other students.

I don't 'really know' what the truth is...that's my honest answer. I would also say I seriously hope it was not a factor.

Peace.

I attended an elite prep school (redundant?) with two then-buddies who finished K through 12 at the same school and are now drug addicts and house painters. One of my best friends went to one of those nasty, underfunded public schools :gasp: and is now a fine Neurosurgeon (and an Aston Martin man), precisely because his parents 'suggested' that he might do well to study hard.
