PART 1: Congress does not make fiscal policy. This Congress is not responsible for the crash of the housing market. This Congress was handed an economy on a downturn, which is the result of the Fed policy under Greenspan.

PART 2: Its not a big surprise that taxes are lower under a republican than a democrat. Its also not a big surprise that schools are under funded, health care for the masses is nowehere in sight and the country faces the biggest deficit that we have ever had because Bush taxed less and spent more than his predecessor.

PART 3: I dont see what spending on social welfare has anything to do with how much money, and lives of young Americans, we have spent fighting and unjustified war of which the basis for was an outright lie.

1. Right - and Greenspan served under whom? Both Republicans and Democrats. Hope you remember that...

2. Schools are underfunded? Saying it doesn't make it so. There are tremendous inefficiencies in public schools, hence I would argue that are properly funded, but poorly managed.

3. History, not you nor I, will determine whether the war was justified. All the evidence is not known about its casus belli, nor is the data available to those without a need-to-know.

On the school funding topic, I think schools are overall really messed up. Every public school kid should have the exact same amount of money spent on them, not dependent on how wealthy the people are around the school.

1) Yeah, but who nomintaed him for the position?

2) They are poorly managed as well as grossly underfunded. Text books are out of date, class sizes are out of control, teachers are underpaid and after school programs are being cut like nobodys business.

3) The war was unjustified, we went in under the false pretenses that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, which not only do we now know to be untrue, but we know Bush knew that wasn't true when he initiated the whole war. We are trying to force our way of life on a society that doesnt want it, and is not ready for it, just like we did to them after World War I when we decided that the Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds should all be a part of this before unheard of country we now refer to as Iraq.

The system we use to fund our schools is a joke.

You don't know what weapons Saddam had, nor do you know what Bush knew or was told before the war. You know what CNN, Fox, or whoever tells you. You may have heard a lot, but you don't know anything.

In the words of a SF guy I know, "if you want to support us, turn off your T.V. and pay your taxes."

2) Schools are not being poorly funded, its what they decide where the money goes, talk to the board and the union as to where the money goes, they decide if they want a pay increase first before it gets handed down to the actual schools.
3) The war was unjustified? The cause and reason for being in this war is right, being in it now is getting to be a dif. story. I believe the war could have been ended years ago, too much politics behind war now, that and its a money maker for both parties anyways.

We do now know what he had, which is nothing. We also should have known what he had, considering we gave it to him in the early 80's. Just becuase I think the war is unjustified doesnt mean I dont support the troops. I did have friends over there.

Why dont you come here to the Bay Area and take a tour of a school in Oakland or Richmond or Martinez or Antioch and then tell me the schools are properly funded.

The cause and reason for the war would have been right, however the cause and reason were founded on a lie. Bush wasnted to finish what his father couldn't or didn't.

Jewpac, I live in Stockton now, and have lived here for 6 years before coming back, don't give me the 'come here' excuse. The boards and the union takes the additional money they get, and decides how they wanna spend it. Blame the school system for how they manage their own funds.

The "laffer curve" can be misleading and is generally used (as I have seen it) as a reason to not tax the rich too heavily. Even if tax revenues from taxing the rich too heavily drop due to less motivation to produce wealth, overall this may be a good thing as wealth is then distributed more evenly.

It is very economically inefficient to concentrate wealth as money is spent on more and more superflous things. Consider Ballmer and ellison's yachts, abramovich's missile launchers, etc. This money would have been more efficiently used in the hands of the less wealthy. Certain individuals, like Buffet, act responsibly and help create a more efficient economy, but those guys usually figure out a way to pay no income tax whatsoever (Buffet has stated he pays 17.5% income tax (less than us) and has no shelters).

In Stokcton huh? You want to go talk to my Aunt who is a principal at a school in the Stockton Unified School District about how she lacks funds?

You still don't see the picture, the funds don't get handed directly to the schools.

Well, you're a socialist, so just admit it. Look at fiasco that the luxury tax created. The middle and lower classes (those who designed and built the boats) suffered the most when that tax nearly decimated the yacht business years ago.

And guys like Buffet have no shelters? Hello? He takes a $300k salary and takes the rest in capital gains. Do the math on just the 2.8% (employer and employee) share of the Medicare tax he is avoiding. Holy cow...

Hello, Mother Rucker!

My point exactly! All these people who think 'they know' the whole truth are seriously mistaken...
