DCT owner with NO 2nd gear "lag"...

seems like both 2008 and 2009 owners continue to experience lag...does any DCT owner NOT have the 2nd gear hesitation/ lag.....

I still have it. Late September build 2009 e90.

As long as we are on the subject, I had a mid sequence oil change this evening (yes, 8500 miles in 3 months) and had my technician drive the car to duplicate the 2nd gear lag.

He duplicated the lag.
He said it was similar the the lag experienced by other BMW automatic transmissions. He said his mother's 335 also does it and his parents are none to happy about it.
He ran a service inquiry on it and it came back as "normal vehicle behavior".
There is no new service action to address this as some have speculated recently, and I had hoped for.
It's time to write a few more letters to BMWNA.

I guess all we know for sure is the recent BMW service bulletin on the lag issue distributed to dealers, calling it "normal"....but one has to wonder if they are working on a fix and hedging in the meantime to cover themselves until they have a fix ....otherwise seems unlikely they would have issued a stand alone Service bulletin for the lag.....but who knows....i will soon get my 09 and am mentally preparing myself for the dreaded "lag"...and yes I will be writing to BMWNA

Set your shift mode to S4 and it will go away.

I have a car with the 31.1 update and I don't experience the hesitation under my driving style. I did try to reproduce it a couple times, but I haven't been able to get the inputs just right to make it happen.

I don't agree that it's normal for all BMW automatics to behave the same way. My brother drives an X6 35d and it definitely does not after this lag.

The newer Progmans partially fixed the lag issue on the 335. Also, it was never nearly as bad as the DCT lag I had when driving the M3. They really should fix it, as merging into traffic poses a pretty big safety risk.

Have '09 M3 Sedan week 42 production. Haven't had problem lag even when trying to get it. Noticed a little lag in my 550i with Sport Auto which was more than anything I can detect in the M3.

Have you had any updates 31.1/ 31.2...? or is the car essentially factory settings only....?

Haven't had any updates. At 1200 service, SA said my VIN # put into the computer showed I didn't need an update. When I asked what my progman version number was, he told me he couldn't get that without a whole lot of difficulty. I would have to bring the car back and leave it for a while, which I didn't want to do because I needed the car for Christmas activities.

I think I have v31.1, and I do have the DCT Lag/Hesitation safety issue

He's full of SH!T. I just drove the wife's 335 today and there's no lag at all. It's a great auto; probably the best auto tranny out there, and for daily driving, MUCH better than the DCT.

I've owned both and disagree! The DCT could be much better, if BMW-AG would just fix the lag/hesitation safety issue

Don't sugar coat it. Tell us what you really think.

Some 335s have a lag problem, just like some M3 have the problem. You're lucky that your wife's 335 is working fine. More power to you. My DCT has a significant problem. I trust that the tech I was talking to knew what he was talking about.

Do you mean D4? I find that D4 or 5 largely gets round the problem..... any S mode is fine.

I pray this is not the case but until some gets into a tragic accident, I don't see them making this a serious issue and recalling all the cars. I've been adjusting my driving just so I don't get "stuck" in a position where someone will smack me while I'm in lag/stall mode.

I apologize if this was discussed before but could someone please explain the lag problem? Do you mean that the car won't downshift into 1st when you press on gas or the car just doesn't accerlerate in 2nd gear? Had a 335 auto and don't seem to recall this issue. I am seriously considering DCT but this could be an issue for me...
