Best Motoring - M3 DCT vs STI vs 2 x Tuned 135i vs Civic Mugen RR

Sorry if this is a repost...

M3 clearly the fastest car here, despite coming a very close 2nd...JDM STI is soooo much better than USDM STI...

yeah.. M3 came from the back.. another lap and it would have won. Nice race but weird choice of cars. 3 BMW's a Honda and a Subi. riiiight.

It isn't a coincidence that the M3 starts in last in every Best Motoring Video.

Each grid is set up on a 1 lap qualifying time. Then a reverse grid is set.

So the fastest car always starts in last.

So in reality the races are just for fun, since we know how every car stands before the race starts.

LOL!!

The tuned 135i goes into limp mode twice during the race.

Best Motoring races seem to be most relevant to me. I love these videos.

It's just fun to watch with the comments of the respective drivers. Keiji was pissed about the 135i going into limp mode for the second time.

I don't think either of those 135i's are "tuned" with ECU tunes.
Their tachs are going up too slowly for them to have piggybacks or flashes on them. And the M3 walked past one of the 135i's on the straight almost as fast as one would if the 135i was stock. And it's pretty well known a tuned 135/335i with a top level piggyback will accelerate equally with a stock M3.

Nice video though. But I agree, weird choice in cars. Why 2 135i's and why have a Nissan driver driving one of the 135i's?

there is a pretty big thread about this video over at 1addicts. The 135i's are indeed stock, and one of them had problems with the engine management before the race. Let me see if I can find the thread....

but I take this video as "serious" as I would this video:

no way a stock 135i will keep up with an M3 like that...

Dude, the only way a flashed X35i will accelerate near an m3 is 0-60, after that the turbos run out of breath.

The M3 walks past the 135 because it is carrying more speed through / out of the corner. If you want to make a 335 or 135 faster on a track, don't tune it put an LSD in it.

Not this denial again. Do a search.
A tuned 135/335i will run equal (and in some videos) pull away slightly from a stock M3 well into triple digit speeds. Tune only 335i's trap at 112-113 mph on pump, that's what the M3 does.
And that's at sea level. As altitude rises, the M3 will fall further and further behind.
Now a race from 100-150 might be a different story.
But the turbos far from run out of breath after 60 mph.

No the 135i was many car length in front and was on the gas before the M3 even got on the gas.
But the M3 still easily caught it and jogged on by.
That had nothing to do with corner speed, it had to do with what was clear to me a 135i that had no ECU tune on it and the more powerful M3 easily catching it on the straight and walking on by.
Had the 135i had an ecu tune (JB3 or Procede v3) that M3 would never have caught it on that straight, much less jogged on by. It would have to of used it's superior handling and had to pass on the corner sections not on the straights.

But yes, an LSD will make the 135/335 faster on the track, but I'd put my money on a tuned 135/335 easily beating a non-ECU tuned 135/335 with only an LSD around all but the most tight, curvy of tracks.
The power that's added from an ECU tune to the N54 engine will do far more than an LSD alone will do).

FYI, from the conversations in the video, both 135 had to pretty much forfit the race due to overheating...

In the begining they mentioned both were boosted up...not sure exactly what tune, but they were boosted up (dunno how much) from stock

Tsuchiya's 135, he forgot to turn off the DSC, that's why he kept trying to push the DSC button on the center console.

A tuned 135i needs about a 15% hike in torque to be the even of a STOCK M3 DCT in double digits (I'm talking km/h BTW) - easily enough achieved...

BUT - a tuned 135i needs about a 30% hike in power to be the even of a STOCK M3 DCT past triple digits (again km/h) - a 30% increase increase is easy to achieve up to maybe 5000RPM in a 135i, but much harder past 5000RPM where the turbos are running out of puff...you are now in Procede V3/aftermarket intercooler territory...

On the track, any advantage at lower speeds a tuned 135i (say with Procede V2) is fairly irrelevant except out of hairpins...certainly not the advantage you'd see on a drag strip...

They always start the M3 in the back......every video I've seen the M3 gets the WORST launch ever....I mean my grandma could do better... Whats even more amazing is the japanese car always seems to win, or at least most of the time.....The M3 clearly had the fastest laps out of that group..... Kinda funny how the 135's overheated...since it didn't look hot there at all

Uhh...they do it on purpose...M3 most likely posted the fastest lap time therefore, started from the back...slowest cars in the front.

They even stated that the M3 wanted to start off slow to see how the other cars battle out. That's how they usually do it in BMI.

They know that the M3 would smoke all those cars if he went all out from the start and all started on the same line...they do it to make it more exciting.
