That's what I was going to comment on. The car has no large visible amounts of corner lean at the speeds around the corners.
I wonder if it's a stock suspension setup.
I'm impressed

IT has to have a auto tranny, and it sounds a lot like a R8 so its prob the same 4.2 V8 thats in the old RS4 and R8.

By any chance, could it be a twin turbo V8??? I read articles stating that like BMW, Audi's are going to introduce turbo's in RS models as well as replace the V10 in S6 and S8 with that engine.

Supercharged V8 aint bad but TT V8's will be

Offtopic but I hope this RS5 is as fast as a GTR ......it's going to command the same price (Above 80k) so.... it ought to be....
Anyway, it looks damn fast on the track

I don't think everyone said the RS5 is better than the M3. In fact, I am fairly certain in a head-to-head comparison, especially C&D, the RS5 will likely place second in driver's experience. But I would buy one with few miles on it over a new M3 because the Audi will make a better daily driver with its aesthetic and versatility - AWD is good for dry and the snow. I am not completely sold because Porsche's new Cayman S is also under contention and that car is significantly more reliable than either cars, and that is the most important factor in a daily driver.

The RS5 is going to be heavy judging from the howl of the tires but I doubt any of us would drive the RS5 at speed on streets. I would sure hope not.

I don't know how you can tell if the RS5 will be a worse driving experience than the M3. It will be different as is the case with any car, the C63 is different and so is the GTR and so on, I would doubt it will offer the tail out driving experience that is available with the M3 any time you disconnect the DSC but I am expecting it to be a little better in every discipline be it acceleration, cornering or braking.

It's not the weight that is causing the RS5's tyres to howl but the fact it's awd, that means it's wheels are constantly fighting the surface, trying to force the car on a different trajectory than the natural one. That is why a rwd car only really wears it's rear tyres quickly and an awd one wears them either evenly or slightly more in one or other directly depending on which axle has the most weight.

Good points Footie ^^^

Guys, I'm hearing the RS5 will have a N/A V8 and it wont have a supercharger or turbo! Seems to be from a good enough source.

i highly doubt audi is targeting the e9x m3 with the rs5. what i mean is, i do indeed believe the rs5 will outperform the m3

If this is indeed the case and Audi haven't decided to give the RS5 an extra dose of torque over the M3 then I expect Audi to extensively use light weight materials to reduce to overall weight of the RS5 over that of the S5. Not only making it lighter overall but more importantly lighter at the nose.

Extra power has proven itself to get the job done, best example of this is the RS6 which is not only quicker in acceleration but also around a lap. The only reason it was more economical is the fact Audi chose to use turbos to get this extra economy. With the RS5 they have to lighten the thing to compete.

This isn't the engine I was expecting or the one I would prefer but it may be a better car because of it when viewing the bigger picture.

Time will tell Footie. I really wanted to see a turbo version myself, but if Audi made a huge success with the RS4, and the new RS6 (in most ways), I'm sure this new RS5 will also be a beast.

Exclamation

Okay guys someone pointed this out from another forum. A spreadsheet from last year has had 100% accurate info on all Audi models!

It's been right about the S4, S5, TT-S, RS6, R8 V10 etc. and it claims the RS5 will have a 4.2 V8 N/A 450bhp. I think it could be true since I heard that yesterday from a reliable source!

Check it out:

According to hks786 it's to be another N/A 4.2L V8, does that mean it's rev limit has increased to achieve this extra 7% of power or is there some new technology which is getting the increased output?

My only concern is, will all this be achieved at the cost of economy, smoothness and more importantly drivibility.

My guesses are the same. Increased redline (8.5-8.6k?) and some sort of new efficient technology. I think Audi's longstanding N/A V8 is one of the best sounding, if not the best, so this makes me optimistic.

Hmm, doubt it. The GTR was a purpose-built, from-the-ground-up, performance machine. The RS5 will be hampered by the A5/S5's basic--relatively speaking--chassis.

Agreed, the GTR is better than the best that Audi can currently muster which is the R8, another purpose built mid-engined sportscar, admittedly it's only a V8 pushing out 420hp, not the realistic figure of 520hp that the GTR has.

Point is that the RS5 will have to make with a normal car's chassis design which have been purpose built for it's mass market of GT duties, no doubt Audi will make a good stab at improving this to the level where it will be better than it's closest rivals but it won't concern the likes of the GTR.

That duty is solely the responsibility of the new R8v10 which probably will get as close than any true rival has to toppling the new king.

My betting has the R8 V10 trumping the GTR. It only needs a little more power, and maybe a mild suspension tuning (and the revision of other misc. parts). It has the necessary blueprints to make a GTR beater (mid-engine, advanced space frame, big power, etc).

The S5 and 335i are pretty much even around the track. If the RS5 is set to have a high-revving V8 pushing out 450bhp how is the 335i quicker

I think the rev limit increase is a possibility. The V8 in the RS4 hits 8250rpm but the new V10 in the R8 hits 8700rpm.

I dont think the new RS5 engine is necessarily based on this new V10, because it would still only push out ~425bhp in a 4.2 V8 form. Maybe we really will see the V8 with something like improved FSI or some other new/improved tech...
