Dirty Water??

I've heard the water at a manual car wash is recycled/filtered and thus potentially harmful to the new car. I've also heard exactly opposite. Is this claim true?

Exclamation So True

Yes it is true, so very true....Clarified, filtered to the 10th degree and reused...nasty. Nothing better than pure clean reverse osmosis water, spot free! Thats what we use!

Best to detail it yourself at home or have a detailer do it for you.

ideally i wash my car at home too. but recently i went down to boston for the weekend and by the time i reached there, the whole car was ridiculously disgusting. i couldnt stand driving around in such a dirty car for 2 or 3 days so i found a car wash. i think its fine if you wash your car in a car wash two of three times in a year when you really need to.

as for recycled water, it can be good or bad... it depends if the car wash place cleans out its filters frequently or not. some do and some dont. so its all luck i guess. its kind of hard to tell them you want to see how dirty their water filter is before you pay for a wash.
