what winter shoes do you prefer
The war dept. has had an AWD rig for the last 10 years, between Missoula, Chicago, and here. Now she's thoroughly enjoying her E92 M3, which is a bit of a concern for me. I may have made a slight mistake when I showed her the little M button on the steering wheel
It's her daily driver from Maple Valley to Bellevue, either the windy Issaquah/Hobart Road or going over Tiger Mtn. Either way, the stock tires on the 18's aren't going to cut it. In searching around, I find plenty of winter tires focusing on snow. But, we really don't get much snow here, it's the rain, ice, and colder temps I'm worried about. It's a lease, so I want to pull off the stock tires and store them until we turn the car in. The stock 18's wheels will be dedicated winter wheels and we'll find her some new 19's come spring. So, any suggestions from people experience with our winter climate? |

I just installed Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 with 18" Sport Edition A7 with TPMS (from Tirerack). This is the first year I'm installing winter-wheels on any of my cars. Our son's school is up on Cougar Mountain, and the drive up sometimes is a little dicey in Winter..
So far, I've been pleasantly surprised with the dry road handling of the tire and realtively low noise. |

Garage is where she is since Friday night, mostly. I had a little boat work to do, so I put her on a gravel section of our drive, a short 15-20 yards away with a 90 degree turn. I had already driven over this area with my truck, so the snow was compacted.
After sitting there for about 5 hours, I moved the boat out and went to put the 328xi and M3 in the garage. Boat came out fine and got parked. 328xi pulled right in, no problem. But, it took about 10 minutes to get the damn M3 into the garage. I think there was more left to right sliding than forward and rearward progress. And this was on about as level a surface as possible. For those folks wondering whether or not to swap out the high performance summer tires for winter wear, I see no option if the rig will be driven during the winter.I'm really glad we haven't sold the 328xi yet. That's what she's driving now, and will continue to until I get her winter tires installed. |
