Now it will be around the same speed as an M3 in a straight line!
But it will probably be a little faster still...
The track is a different story however.

Well you had to see this one coming. What is the 0-60 without LC? 4.0? Still impressive and still a track monster. When people wondered how you could buy a car that fast for only 70k deep down you had to know they would have to cut corners somewhere.

I heard they are voiding warranty if you use launch control. Nissan is so strange.

I am not at all surprised by this u-turn, Launch control by dumping the clutch is all fine and good when traction can be broken easily like in rwd cars, but when it's an awd car that puts serious stress on the rest of the drive train then maybe the lost of LC is the wisest decision to make.

Audi has wised up to allowing their cars to dump the clutch at serious revs, the S5 was limited to just under 4000revs but it still didn't stop it from being anything other than impressive.

My belief is this LC was allowing people to believe the GTR was unworldly, now it's only mortal in acceleration, though it still doesn't stop it for being the most impressive car on the track.

P.S.
A word of warning, I won't be doing too many LC on my M3 and I would suggest everyone else to do the same.

What a diaster for Nissan, and acknowledging at the same time the warranty nightmare.

The GTR is truly a remarkable car, however IMO its just too overhyped.

Great advice. I think most enthusiasts who really care about their M3 and "use it properly" (whatever that means..) knows this but it is very good to say it explicitly. It will undoubtedly out last the GT-Rs tranny when LC is used often but at the same time it will absolutely shorten the lifetime in our cars just the same.

+1......As SWAMP says great point, and its the way I have felt since the first day I read about LC. When mine arrives, LC will only be used occasionally.

But another important point is this is why Porsche and BMW will always be in their own class--->because their sh*t does what they say it will do, their stuff holds up over time, and they don't make ridiculous claims only to leave their customers hanging in the wind with voided warranties stemming form normal use.

Nissan customers need to ask Nissan why they dropped launch control. Hold them accountable for putting (what could only be described as) a defective feature in the car, marketing it's performance based on use of that feature, and then voiding warranties when that feature is used.

When BMW does a recall on a relatively minor software update to DCT, the forum lights up with anti DCT posts. Just imagine if using launch control blew the DCT's, and BMW voided warranties.
For that matter, imagine if BMW had that problem, and Nissan didn't. The GTR guys would be having a party with it.

Figures......but why would Nissan do this when they can just void the warranties and piss off customers who never would buy a Nissan anyway..... Afterall you bought a Nissan and end up with Nissan customer service....

BMW customer service impresses you? You like your ca and sa to bug the fuck out of you about "we need all 5's or we fail."? You like getting phone calls everyday until you answer their stupid survey?

I wouldn't guarantee that it won't become an issue in the future for BMW or Porsche or any other company out there if these systems are abused.

The fact that the GTR is awd probably increases the stress levels on the gearbox by four times that of a rwd or fwd car. Porsche have a trick up their sleeve with their awd 997s, that is to click the handbrake one click and it becomes a rwd 997, I wonder if this is part of the LC procedure.

Also, the fact it will be dropped in future GTRs should help those customers with the problem, Nissan are effectively saying they know they have a problem. Lawyers should now have a field day with this.
