Driving M3 in Montreal

I've just moved to Montreal. I had 06 325i E90 back in UK.

Considering the long winter in here ,Is it a good idea to get a M3 for every day driving? or perhaps X5 or X6 is more practical. I really love the M3 but I can only afford to get one car.

Nothing wrong with the M3 for everyday - always get a set of winter tyres and you should be sorted.

i have an m3 on order... but i do have a winter beater... i sold my old e90 328i a month ago.... you can drive the M in winter... but i wouldnt just cos its so harsh on the car.. and i'd feel bad having a car full or stone chips and going through such crappy roads during the winter. i'd rather let the beater take it all.

Well i just picked up an M3 and i'll be driving it this winter.
I'm going to slap some really good winter tires on and hope for the best. I drove my previous car a E92 335 last year and it was pretty harsh on bad winter days...
My suggestion would be not to drive the car when there's alot of snow on the roads.
Problem isn't with the fact that the car is rear wheel drive or that it has lots of power.
It's really because the car is so low and has clearance issues when the roads are full of snow...

Point of interest...Montreal winters are REALLY bad (if this is going to be your first winter there), they typically get 2X the snow than Toronto...also the potholes in the winter are horrendous...a beater may be a good option if you can...

Winters in Montreal are definitely horrible and a beater would probably be a better option but the M is definitely drivable in Montreal winters.
As for the potholes they are bad.
Just get the Road Hazard insurance as i did and you'll be fully covered on Rims and tires both summer and winter.

Id really be surprised if I saw an M3 out in our winters. If it does somehow do it then the even bigger obstacle are the immense potholes right after the winter !

Good luck... My m3 is set for storage on dec 1st.

go RS4. some dealers still have 08's at great prices. speaking from experience.

i drive mine all year , 75km everyday , downtown and up the mountain in montreal, the LSD makes it great with good rubber. i am not a 4wd guy, but we have a 4matic that does feel more planted in horrendous weather. just dont go into deep snow.

I'll drive mostly my X5 during the winter but I will definitely put on winter tires and drive the M3 also during the winter.

If you have a M3 then you should try to arrange for alternate transportation in the winter or get a beater if you can

Ofcourse some people in northern italy and other parts of europe still drive there ferraris in the winter...
