First track event, any pointers?

I have my first road course track event this weekend at Eagles Canyon in Texas. I was wondering if any of you could have any pointers for me. I am just running stock breaks and tires for this fist event and realize that I will definitely be buying new ones for the next one. I am sure I will have many questions after this event as well.

Main questions I can think of right now:
o What tire pressure (cold) should I go with front and rear?
o Is it worth it to put in the higher octane (101+)? Are there any possible problems with possibly mixing a 93 octane that's in the tank with a much higher octane?
o What are the best/most popular break pads out there for both track and street?
o Any suggestions on extra things to bring out to the track?

1. Knock about 5# off before you start and check them to keep them from running much over the stock pressure settings (on the driver door jamb).

2. The factory pads are good for light duty track work. Otherwise, it's a challenge to find uprated pads - no wide choice available yet.

3. Sunscreen and water (both for you). The car will be fine - it's made for this kind of thing.

o What tire pressure (cold) should I go with front and rear? Bleed them to keep them to 42 psi (somewhere between 40 and 44 is probably good) , you'll have to put air back in before you head home
o Is it worth it to put in the higher octane (101+)? Are there any possible problems with possibly mixing a 93 octane that's in the tank with a much higher octane? Not necessary
o What are the best/most popular break pads out there for both track and street? The stock ones are fine for now until you et to C and B group
o Any suggestions on extra things to bring out to the track?

• Helmet (SNELL 2000 or newer required).
• Cotton/natural fiber long pants and long sleeved shirts are required
• Extra quart (or two) of oil
• Beverages (water or Gatorade) to replace the body fluids you will lose at the track.
• Glass cleaner and paper towels
• Gas - fill up before arriving at the track to save a bit of money; Gas is avail. at track by credit card pumps (open all of the time).
• Other tools and parts as desired. Examples: extra brake fluid, coolant, air compressor, hoses, belts….
• Sunscreen and/or a hat and maybe bug spray
• Lawn chair(s)
• A tarp or two to protect your gear from the elements (remember, it might rain)
• A relaxed, open mind for learning something new and exciting, and the willingness to be guided by your instructor.

40psi hot, more if they start to roll over onto the sidewall. If it understeers run 1-1.5psi more in the front.

Look thru the corner, keep your eyes up and ahead, point your nose to the exit/track out.

Move your seat forward til your wrists rest on the top of the wheel with elbows slightly bent. Steer with your palms and very light finger pressure, feel what the car is telling you.

Rip it!

Just start at recommended pressures....then check hot temps and adjust from there....my E92 DCT with stock 19" PS2's performed well at about 43.5psi all around (hot)

#1 have fun and listen to your instructor......be safe....

The M3 is a wicked machine for the track....you'll love it and quickly become addicted...

Don't spend money on high octane fuel. That'll be the last thing that will be slowing you down if this is your first event.

Make sure to use the seat belt trick...
*sit in the seat where you want it
*buckle your seat belt
*tilt the back of seat back a ways
*pull on the shoulder belt quick til it tightens
*hold it tight while moving the seat back up to where it was
(ask your instructor. they"ll know)

this will keep the belt locked and keep you in place very nicely....

Take it easy and drive at the speed you are comfortable....
